Arkansas teachers/student sex, FTW

Good, it shouldn't fucking matter what position they are in. They said 18 year olds are adults and that's all that matters. IMO 18 is babying the shit out of people, 16 should make you an adult imo.

This. I see it as completely unethical, but not criminal.

It is a fine line... But... should be criminal in my mind. As a parent I put my trust in my daughter's teachers to teach her. They are also in a position of authority over her, and if they abuse that authority, their first fear is her father, not school administrators or even law enforcement.

The key is indeed - the authoritative role they have over the student.

I think this is great.

But it doesn't mean we can't discourage teachers and students from getting it on. Just like with any place of employment, the school can have an anti-fraternization policy. Just because it isn't against the law to have sex with a "coworker", doesn't mean that the "employer" can't fire you for breaking the policy. It also doesn't mean that the "subordinate" can't sue for sexual harassment.

I think this is how we should approach this.
Agree 100%.

It shouldn't be against the law, resulting in jail, as their Supreme Court agreed. However, it should result in immediate loss of license to teach.

I think there will still be that little thing called being fired and the reason why going on your 'service record' as a teacher to act as a major deterrent.

Totally agree, I don't see any reason for this to be illegal. Sure as hell should be fired for it, though, and lose your teaching license.
