Another neighbor used a wooden plank to break through a door that had been deadbolted, Bronson said.

"When that door come open and the smoke and heat hit me in the face, I couldn't go no more," Bronson said.

He said he had trouble sleeping afterward.

"I could hear those kids screaming," Bronson said. "I heard the kids crying through the door."
Gripping.

horrible,
that kinda stuff goes with you the rest of your life.

Thing that sucks is that if we lived in a safer world where we didn't have to deadbolt our doors, those kids may have gotten out.

Trust me, in Humphrey she didn't have the door deadbolted to keep people out. She had it deadbolted to keep those kids from wandering off.

Such a tragedy. 🙁

I feel bad for the neighbors that tried to help. They're probably needlessly blaming themselves that they couldn't do anything. I know I would be in a situation like that

🙁

My family of 4 live in a trailer and the thought of what happend to them haunts me all the time because if a fire broke out it wouldnt take long for it to spread at all.

After reading that story and given some thought why dont manufatures make a concealed door in each room for people to get out going under the trailer. This way they can most likely go under the fire and just push the skirting out. But thanks to me reading that I am going to worry even more 🙁

I couldn't help but wonder why the writer mentioned the guy holding the cigarette and the Mountain Dew. Was that supposed to add depth to the trailer park milieu?

I think that was the father of some of the children.

It says that guy Bronson was a former firefighter...god that must have been his worst nightmare come true.

what a sad story.

i cant help but wonder why they didnt run immediately for the door, or try to break through a window. i dont know much about how a mobile home is setup, but there has to be a way out besides the front door. im sure they were scared out of their mind, and all of them being so young it would make it difficult to escape, but small children are smarter than we give them credit for. its horrible that they died, though, i just wish they would have gotten out. such a sad situation...
