Is there a way to filter processors by stepping?

The old tool (Intel processor finder) allowed me just to do that.

Nope.

The current list of steppings in ARK seems to be incomplete anyway. Like for C2Q processors they show the B steppings, but none of the E, G or R releases.

That is sad. It's PITA to find supported processors. Especially the Core 2 Duo series... there were so many. Oh well.

Can't you find out what series of cpu are supported based on your motherboard chipset?

If there is something you need information on please feel free to let me know and I will be happy to see if I can dig it up for you.

Intel Broadwater i946GZ

CPUs known to work:
Core 2 Duo E6320
Pentium Dual Core E2160

Is it possible to get the newer 45nm chips to work? Provided BIOS gets to mod? FSB might not work @ 1333 Mhz though.

Any "B2" C2D should work, unfortunately I haven't got different flavor of chips to test and getting them off eBay isn't a practical solution. I'd try different steppings / tech if by modding BIOS this 946GZ chipset will actually recognize / work.

Thanks in advance.

OK I did some digging for both the 946GZ chipset and any boards that we had that ran the 946GZ chipset. Not only did I check our site but I also check Asus and Gigabyte's sites to see of they offered support for the 45nm and up 1333MHz FSB.

First of all for Intel® boards and CPU here is another tool for you and it does include stepping support. http://processormatch.intel.com/CompDB/Default.aspx

For Intel boards I can not find any support for the 45nm or 1333MHz FSB on the 946GZ chipset. Heck I had a hard time getting any support for the 45nm and 1333 FSB on my Intel DP965LT board. However when I moved to Gigabyte it does appear that they did a build that when matched up with a Bios release would support the 1333 FSB and 45nm. Asus did even show any 946GZ boards. So it looks like it came down to the motherboard manufacturers if they released updated bios.

I wish the microcode part of the BIOS was cross-compatible though. It is such a pain to mod these things. Anybody got experience?

Thanks for your assistance, Intel. Have a great weekend.
