If they're short and brown, take 'em down!
:D
I know that was a joke, but people like you are not really helping the cause of solving the problem of illegals in the U.S. Every time a possible solution comes up about this problem all the pro-illegal people have to do to nullify it is to point at people from the extreme right like you and scream racism and bigotry till no one remembers/cares what the solution presents. They play that card every time and you guys keep handing them more ammunition.

If you look at the overwhelming support by better than 2 to 1 of The People for cracking down on illegals you'll find that card has lost it's sting. It's a meaningless and baseless charge these days and as such summarily dismissed by rational people.

Eventually you'll realize we're past the point where words matter on the subject. The crisis here cannot be solved politically, nullifying the accurate political points you've made.

Make no mistake, we are at war. The federal government just refuses to acknowledge it and in many ways is supporting the enemy (illegal invasion).

Therefore as the good sheriff said, the federal government is the enemy right along with the illegal invader because they are aiding and abetting them.

Its not the employers job to enforce immigration law no more than it is the states job. It is the job of the federal government.

If someone comes in for a job it is reasonable to assume that they can legally work.

Let me put it another way. If you go to a night club and someone uses a fake ID to enter (a club being 21) and you hook up with them you go to jail. It is not your fault that person used a fake ID. Its not the clubs fault that they used a fake ID. It is the person who used the fake IDs fault.

I love how people always want to blame someone else for the actions of illegal aliens.
I agree that companies shouldn't be prosecuted for hiring someone they reasonably thought, and did reasonable due diligence, was legal. However, a fuckton of illegals work for companies that actively and knowingly hire illegals and in those cases large fines should be levied against those companies.

Isn't declaring that the government is your enemy tantamount to admitting that you're an enemy of the state? Enmity works both ways.

Why does this sherriff hate America?

though things are starting to swing the other way. eventually a president is going to have to do something meaningful. when is the question and what.

Probably the same reason all the "He's not my president!" liberals hate America.

Other than being stuck in 2007, I'm sorry they are so frustrated.

I'd tend to think more grandstanding - hard to think of a more politicized environment than yer local sheriff's dept.

What reason would that be?
Because the liberals/cons state that the sheriff/Bush/Obama/etc. are doing something that they don't like. Much easier to say "Why does he hate America?"/"Not my president". It's an easy cop-out for the lame-brained.

I didn't like what Bush did. I still want to give Obama more time as some things I do like, most I don't. But I won't utter "He's not my president" because I am an American and Obama is the president---like it or not. Same with the sheriff. He is doing what he has to in order to protect his people without getting himself killed.

Umm that would be wrong P-anus. Most of these people come here to get a job. And as long as these sleazy companies keep hiring them, they will keep coming here.

Dunno it was only mentioned multiple times in the OP. This is about whatever you guys want it to be, it changes depending on the day.

One day the major concern is anchor babies destroying America, next day it's welfare/socialism, next day it's criminals and rapists, the next day it's the drugs harming the children.

You guys base your hype on whatever will drive the most irrational fear into your intended audience.
I always thought it was "all of the above". You forgot driving down wages/taking jobs an American would otherwise do if the company didn't have access to a huge pool of dirt cheap labor.

I have always found it rather ironic that the left seems to want to protect people illegals so that they can continue to be exploited for labor at wages far lower than they would agree should be paid to a "normal" person. This is the catch 22, if you grant them all amnesty and legalize them then they will have to work within the system and that means all the advantages of them being here instantly go away. You can't pay a legal worker $4 an hour, permits, insurance requirements, regulations etc.. would now apply removing the competitive edge on the contractors side. Basically they would have no, or very little, advantage in the job market other than driving wages down to the legal limits. At the same time the same people argue that the standard of living for the poor/middle class should be risen. How the fuck do you intend to do both? Bringing in low cost labor is not much different then sending labor to other places that cost less. At the end of the day you are still competing with lower wages. Wage parity equals a lower standard of living for US not a higher one. Granted, the opposite is also true, it equals a higher standard of living for those that we are competing with (be it Chinese labor or illegal immigrants) but I haven't heard anyone say that was their goal.

Does that mean I hate brown people too?

Obviously my question was a bit of a jab at the neo-cons for enduring the same such asininity for the eight years their puppet was in the office, but in this instance it would seem that the sherriff quite overtly declared that he hated America. He did declare it to be his enemy. That isn't as much of a stretch as you seem to want to make it.

Same with the sheriff. He is doing what he has to in order to protect his people without getting himself killed.
You're going to have a tough time convincing me that becoming an enemy of the state is the necessary means to achieving the end you stated.

Yes, so say a rich white kid becomes president, and his whole legislative agenda is in jeopardy of being blocked by the south in Congress, if he pushes on 'civil rights', an issue the nation has let go on for a century, if he sticks his neck out on behalf of 12% of the least powerful people, risking angering the large majority.

No way he's going to decide to that and confront the nation making it a 'moral issue' for the first time. Except JFK did.

It isn't the employer's fault if the illegal immigrant uses a fake ID. It IS the employer's fault when he knowingly hires an illegal and pays that person cash under the table. This is the case in the vast majority of situations where an illegal is hired.

- wolf
You may be correct.

I do agree with stopping employment of illegals. It will discourage more illegal immigration, and motivate those already here to deport themselves.

In those cases of fake ID's etc, where the person is put on payroll we need to empower employers so that they can identify those with faked ID's etc.

But IMO the problem with focusing so much on employers as the remedy for illegal immigration is those who are paid under the table. Focusing on employers means focusing on 'paperwork'; and like all such solutions the way around it is to just not do the paperwork. There is no trail for law enforcement. Paying people under the table means no paperwork.

So what to do?

Have law enforcement do 'surprise inspections' at businesses to ensure everyone is legal?

That sounds like a HUGE 4th Amendment problem to me; both from the employers' and the employees' POV.

Now the IRS could probably do surprise inspection, but I'm pretty sure that they're prohibited by law from sharing any info with other agencies.

Bottom line - solving our immigration issue with employment alone is not gonna work. Any many here who are the most vocal about fining employers are the first to scream about Constitutional rights; employers and employees have those too.
