Arizona Race to Succeed Giffords Won by Democrat

No Lifer
of course, this will probably be framed as a national rejection of the GOP, regardless of what local issues are at work.

Jesse Kelly stated before this election that if he lost this one, he'd run again in November.
Some guys just can't take a hint.

Some signs of critical thinking in Arizona unlike Wisconsin that is brain dead.

The biggest brain dead person on these boards is the one that always replys to his own threads.

Personal attacks and insults are not allowed.

And I'm surprised you haven't realized that the OP intentionally has a 2-stage method of creating threads. Stage 1 (the OP) is the introduction of the topic material itself (here's a link on xyz, here's an excerpt from xyz) and then stage 2 is a followup post in which he contributes his personal opinion on the topic introduced in the OP.

You mean like what just happened in Wisc? The guy who lost the real election ran and lost the recall election.

However, in November Kelly will most likely lose again, but that is because the area is being redistricted into a mostly democrat one...making the seat much safer for the dems.

Is it at all possible that the man Giffords picked was elected out of sympathy to Giffords?

Not trying to be a dick, but I can't help but wonder.

30 seconds of googling:

"This election was a referendum on Republicans’ policy of cutting Medicare and privatizing Social Security to give tax breaks [to] millionaires, Big Oil, and corporations that ship jobs overseas – and they lost"

edit: I didn't mean/imply the national media

Yes, and that is, of course, a lie. The same as when Republicans frame the losses of Democrats as national referendums against their policies. It goes both ways and its silly no matter which side initiates these claims.

Arizona Race to Succeed Giffords Won by Democrat

Ron Barber, whom former Representative Gabrielle Giffords picked as her successor, defeated his Republican rival on Tuesday in a closely followed special election seen by many political strategists as testing ground for the power of national issues in deciding competitive races.

The Southern Arizona district is majority Republican

I heard this on NPR this morning and must admit was relieved at the news. This is really a major victory since this guy was representing the far right in a notoriously red state.

Right.

By the way, every time a political party wins the office of dogcatcher they declare it to be a national referendum in support of their policies. Similarly, every presidential candidate wins every debate he was in even if he didn't show up.

Sounds like you're in the anger stage of grief, seeking someone to blame. Anticipating finding out what you will be bargaining with next go around 😉

Now as for the thread's creator who seems utterly shocked that a Democrat was able to win an election... in a district that a Democrat won previously...
