I've seen several huge yards in Afghanistan where all they do is cut them into (still large) pieces.
I saw this as well last year. Yards of brand new MATVs that were going to scrap.
Then, I know that there were countries in the region asking for them to improve their military readiness.
The worst part though is that the MATV is a great vehicle and there are hundreds of them going to waste or worse, all while the Pentagon has a program to develop a new version of a vehicle that provides almost the same capability.
I was nearby when the 747 went down flying MRAPs back to the states though. Also, for those that fail at geography, Afghanistan is land locked. We could take them out by rail, but that is subject to Pakistan and a fully functional, secure railway. We could truck them out, but the Taliban likes to pay Pakistani security at the border crossing money to look the other way while they torch all the gear like cowards.
