Got a bill for the X-ray I got. I have 20% co-pay for emergency hospital visits for my health insurance and apparently a fvckin X-ray costs almost $2500 so I have to pay $483.89 for this. What the fvckkkkk!

i bet that isn't even the charge the insurer sees. insurer has probably footed about $16.11 for that.

Wow, I'm glad I'm 100% covered on ER visits. Those careflights are expensive too...

its cause it was through emergency. x-rays are normally pretty cheap if they are scheduled.

*edit* still seems pricey though.

Was that just for the X-ray alone or the tech too? Our hospital breaks everything down to minutia. My personal favorite was charging $75 for a physical therapist to come in for 5 minutes and show my wife some exercises she can do while on bed rest.

But yeah, anything involving an emergency room visit is going to be expensive because emergency rooms are abused.

Which would be why emergency room care is so damn expensive....

Contest the charge if you think it is too exorbiant.

What was wrong with you that it was so serious you had to go to the ER?

EDIT: I just got on the spot X-Rays of my knee the other day. Total cost for me? $15.

I went to the emergency room back in Feb, and my insurance is right about in line with yours for ER visits. I got two seperate bills, one from the hospital for $169, and another for $220 from another company that apparently does all the x-ray stuff. I've yet to pay the $220, that's outrageous! Had I known it would've been that expensive, I would've rode out the pain, because in retrospect, they really didn't do much for me.

Veterinary hospital charges ~$17/x-ray. if it's an emergency, there's usually a $50 after hours fee too. They have to pay the same equipment costs, and have the film developed. You got ripped, you should have called around and asked for price quotes first. Health care in the us is a huge ripoff scam.

You should have went to Canada. They have an opening for an X-ray in 2007.

Funny, but I don't think it's entirely accurate. ;)

you got raped. Confront the hospital. A simple radiograph costs 100-200 max. Radiologists only get $10-15 to interpret these plain films. They're scamming you. (I'm in the Diagnostic Radiology field)

If you were uninsured you would pay even more.

Strange world we live in, isn't it?

Be glad you didn't crash a moorcycle and get flown by helicopter to the ER. A 20 minute helicopter flight cost my friend 15 grand.

Uh huh... I've gone to my doctor at 1 pm, got a referral for an x-ray at 1:15, drove to the x-ray place for 2 pm, had the x-ray at 2:30, back at the doctor by 3:30 for the results. Cost: Free.

My g/f went to the ER, got scheduled for a CAT scan, had the scan 2 hrs later (at 4 am mind you), got pumped full of morphine, antibiotics, etc. Cost: Free.
