3:45 PM EST - What's that strange smell wafting into my office?
3:46 PM EST - "Hey, Patty!" (She's the office manager) "I think the copy machine's burning up!", I yell.
3:47 PM EST - Nope. It's not the copy machine... Oh, #$@&*! The smell's coming from the server room! :(
3:48 PM EST - Calls start coming in from users who can no longer authenticate on the domain. :Q
3:49 PM EST - People start yelling that their email client keeps asking for a valid mail server. :Q:Q
3:50 PM EST - Enter server room and start examining servers...
3:51 PM EST - SQL Server is fine. Linux server is fine. SCO system is fine. Web server is fine. That leaves the... :Q
3:52 PM EST - Domain/Email/File server! Not so fine... :(
3:53 PM EST - I need a drink!

Post Mortem: Power supply went bad. Blew caps on the mother board and fried the CPU. Gawd, I hope the disk drives are OK! :Q:( (/me says a little prayer...)

Not like the system is important or anything. It's only the primary domain controller, email server, public folder repository, source code storage, personal file storage, and our software product release storage. It's only like the WHOLE COMPANY!!!! :Q

Unfortunately, since I have to get this machine back up and running by Monday morning, I have to pay retail for a new PS at Best Buy and retail for a new MB and CPU at Crap USA. :|

Antec 350W PS - $64.99 (Ouch!)
MSI KT4V MB - $129.00 (Ouch! Ouch!)
AMD XP1800 - $179.00 (Ouch! Ouch! Ouch! Ooooooooouuuuuuuuuccccccchhhhhh!)

:disgust: :(

Woah, that's gotta suck royally, especially knowing that you can get a T-bred B core Athlon XP 1700+ at newegg for somewhere around $50 these days.

Hope you get it up and running soon, and the data's ok.

Of all the things that can completely ruin a day just by themselves, this has got to be among the worst. :Q:(

Hope the drives were OK!

Yep. Five days deep as a matter of fact. :) Unfortunately a few files don't get backed up by the backup server because they're in use when the backup runs (public Exchange folders...) Not a really big deal, but big enough to cause me some major headaches. :(

If the OS is the same can you try the hard drive as a slave in one of the other computers ... just to see if it is OK?

I feel your pain. Our local DC crashed on a Tuesday morning. I didn't leave the building until Wednesday night. It added up to 39 hours straight! Your server is hosting more than mine (our Email is hosted offsite) but my RAID5 array was toast. One drive went bad and during the regeneration another drive failed. :( Dell sent replacement parts to the site 2 times and a tech on the 3rd before giving up and calling the server a loss. I put a temporary DC up and put the DLT drive in it with a spare HD to restore home directories and shares but it was a PITA and a *very* long night.

Believe it or not, people in the office actually notice when you're wearing the same clothes from the day before. :p

Good luck. I hope your drives are okay and you don't have to do a restore.
