I was goofing around the XP themes. After decided I liked the one I already had better, I tried to set it the way it was...except now the text under the icons overlaps the icons that are next to them

Somehow it seems that now, either the icon grid got smaller (and thus the icons overlap) or the text is not being shortened (with the '...') to prevent the overlapping. How can I change that back? It looks awful and cluttered.

Can I change the icon grid on the desktop so that icons are a bit further appart from each other? Or how can I make XP show just a part of the icon's name ('Shortcu...' instead of 'Shorcut to A:').

EDIT: Does this post make any sense at all? I am really tired and at a loss of words...

I'm not sure if TweakUI for XP (part of the PowerToys, available for download over at microsoft.com) would be able to change this setting or not... Have you tried resetting the theme to the XP default and then changing it back to the one you want? (for hope that some setting in the XP default theme would reset the icon positioning setting)

I think I got it. The grid can be adjusted from the 'Advanced appareance properties' in the display panel. It's a little deep in a pull down menu and there you can change the numerical values for grid spacing, so that's why I couldn't find it. I was expecting something more graphical a la OSX.
