Arghh!! The repair tech just destroyed my TV!

This has been unbelievable.

<Rant On>
So I've had the repair people come in three times to repair a few problems with my HDTV before the warranty expired and on the third attempt, they finally managed to destroy my TV.

The first guy that came checked out my TV and said he needed to come back with a part he did not have.

After he came back, he supposedly installed it (I wasn't there to see it personally), tested my TV and left.

When I checked my TV out, I noticed the dead pixels I complained about were gone but I also noticed my picture was much dimmer AND it was out of focus. After closer inspection, I noticed the same dead pixels were still on my screen except since the screen was dimmer and out of focus less noticeable. I also noticed that all my component inputs failed and the tech never bothered fixing them.

I called the shop back to complain and have them send the guy out to fix the problems. This time they sent some degenerate to fix my TV. My mother in law told me some filthy, disgusting, smelly person came to fix the TV. When I spoke to him over the phone, he didn't sound too knowledgeable and he didn't instill any confidence in me. He told me he was a "bench warmer" because the original tech was on vacation. Not being able to do anything, I just told him my problems and hoped he would fix them.

When I got home today, my M-I-L and my 2 kids were very upset. She told me this tech supposedly smelled like urine (I actually smelled it when I came home 6 hours later), made himself completely at home sitting on my cloth couch when my M-I-L asked him to sit on a chair, used my bathroom for like 30 mins and made a complete mess of it. She then tells me the TV doesn't work at all. I check it out and sure enough it doesn't work. It turns on for about 20 secs, has some messed up picture then shuts off with all the lights in the front blinking along with the power light.

I am really ticked off right now at this "tech" and their damned service center for sending him. To top it off, my new projector is starting to show problems too. I am really ticked off right now.

<Rant Off>

Thank you for your patience.

This was my "new" TV I got last year after my $3000 Sony HDTV broke after 2 years. I also just bought a front projector for my HT so I think I've used up all my goodwill with my wife regarding these purchases. 🙁

You didn't have to find them, they were actually quite obvious within 1 foot on a black screen. I had HUNDREDS of dead pixels. I never did anything about them since they didn't bother me when watching from 6' away. I decided to kill 2 birds with 1 stone and have the tech take a look at the dead pixels when the component inputs (4 of them) failed.

I called Panasonic and they referred me to this authorized service agent. Unfortunately, I guess I picked the wrong one. To Panasonic's credit, they were understanding about it when I told them about my problem (unlike fking Sony). Hopefully, they will follow through with their end of the bargain when they send their tech out to me.

Man, there's no better news than when a tech destroys your TV. Make em pay, and upgrade to a better set. 🙂

The biggest problem for me is that I've got a 4YO and a 2YO and they like to watch their Disney programs on TV every morning.

The will not be happy tomorrow.

Cool, hope you get a new set.

Buy Samsung. Even sony's begging Samsung when it comes down to LCD HDTVs.

Are you kidding?

The new Samsung HLP's are garbage from what I hear. They have very high defect rates. And don't even get me started on Sony. They are pure trash.

I have a 5 yr extended warranty on the TV so I'm not that worried. I'm just POed at that service center that completely fuxored my TV and sent some disgusting smelly dude off the street to do it. The retailer had nothing to do with it.

Edit: After rereading, I'm thinking you are referring to pure LCD TVs not LCD RPTVs like the one I have. In that case, I won't argue but a 50" LCD HDTV would likely cost about $20K if they were out compared to my dinky $2400 LCD RPTV wouldn't they?

Warranty is from Panasonic. Extended Warranty is from PC Richards.

I am still under Panasonic warranty but they outsource their repair to authorized service centers.

This place completely messed up my TV. It wasn't Panny's fault except for using them as a service center.

Sounds like it's time for an upgrade.
There is nothing wrong with getting a new set.
The early ones were pretty shabby......

Are you kidding? They haven't been out long enough to tell. Some of the DLP's had an audio synch problem, but there is a fix for that.
They have nowhere near the problems that you've had. Don't let the problems you read about at places like AVS Forums represent a whole brand. That is a small, very picky, minority of users.

BTW, Samung DLP > than Sony LCD. 😉 You should look into one if you have the chance to get a new one.

I actually know someone with an HLP and his was defective. I would not say the stuff on AVS Forum is a small picky minority. How would you explain the problems with the Sony GWIIIs? The HLPs seem to have a ton of problems too, and not nitpicky ones at that. Major ones like the synch being off, TVs not working, etc. I actually think the people that go there tend to get purchasing info, tweak info or just to brag. I don't see the complaint issues as much. Most of the time, its for individual specific issues. When you see a large problem thread, you know its got to be more than just a small nitpicky problem.

FWIW, I actually like the HLP design. I bought my 50LC13 because at the time, Sept 2003, it was over $1K less than anything out there by Samsung. I am/was actually quite happy with it. I would never go back to Sony though regardless of what they introduce. They aren't deserving of my money.

Time to talk to management and get a replacement TV or call a local attorney and have them call the management to get you a new TV. If they ruin it, they are liable to make it work. Especially if this was warranty repair. Otherwise call the manufacturer and let them know that the repair place you used (assuming they were certified to fix that manufacturer's equipment) destroyed your equipment and you need it replaced.
