Arghh! My central AC just broke down

We're dying here now then tomorrow we'll get reamed by the AC repair man most likely.

Just turned ours on. It's sweet! (we just moved in 6 months ago and haven't had to use it till recently). I'd hate to get a repair bill on it though. Good luck.

BTW, anyone know if central A/C is somehow more financially efficient than a 1-room A/C unit ? We have an older single unit in the bedroom for sleeptime, but if having central air on all night long is cheaper, I'd like to know.

Standalone A/C units aren't very efficient, especially and older one like you mention. If you only use it at night for one room though I think it would be cheaper than central air, which is designed to cool the entire home at all hours.
