I got a tbird.. with the stock heatsink on it.. the damn thing won't come off.. I tried using a screwdriver to push it down, and another pointy tool to push the clip off.. no go.. I tried just using the flat head to push and then lift.. no go.. nothing.. I steady the heatsink with one hand so as not to rock it.. how do I get this damn thing off? How much pressure is safe to use? It rocks too, when I try anything.. won't come off!!!! So frustrating.. someone please help me.. if you live in Toronto, come over, I'll feed you beer, just get the damn thing off!!!

thanks

no.. I'm pretty sure that it's the stock taisol one.. anyways.. that's what I heard, that the stock hsf on the tbirds is a taisol.. not the super good one or anything though.. the stock one.

I was having the same problem with my 1.1 Ghz Tbird. I also have the Taisol 733 HSF and that sucker is tough to get off. I wanted to replace the thermal grease because I was having some OC problems. I didn't know what kind of pressure is safe so I just left it alone. I think I read on AMD's website that you have to apply 15-20 pounds of pressure to put the damn thing on, so I guess that much would be OK.

Needle nose pliers and a big flat-head screwdriver never fail for me. Good luck...

The pliers really help. Did I spell pliers right?

Thanks all.. Adul, you're reply proved most valuable.. I grabbed my dremel.. with the extended cutter.. and just cut the damn thing off.. I got an Alpha pep66 on here now, doing 900@1200.. whooo hooo!
No.. no. that never happened..
I kept using a flat head from my swiss army knife.. my problem, was that I wasn't getting enough leverage.. so finally I looked through other tools.. found a skinny little, short flat head.. stuck it inbetween the fan blades, and down through the heatsink.. and pushed down and outward.. I got to be able to push more outward than with the previous approach.. and click.. it came off.. I was overjoyed.. so I cleaned off all the gunk.. can you believe that the place I got it from had added thermal paste (the white stuff) to the thermal pad!!! yeah.. I cleaned it all up and threw on some AS II.. my temps dropped 1 degree.. HAAAAAHAAAA.. all that trouble for one damn degree.. if that.. I'm thinking that it's the same.. oh well.. now I just have to flash the bios.. wish me luck.

Damn! I didn't get here earlier...

What you should have done was slip a screwdriver into the space between the heatsink and the end of the clip with the notch. Use your finger to push down that same end. Then twist the screwdriver clockwise, so that the screwdriver is pushing against the clip. Done.
