Last week I finally got around to installing a second 12VDC power socket in the center console of my Legacy. The second socket was so I could have a cigarette lighter beside the wheel and still have a place to keep my cellphone charger. Yesterday before work I get the wonderful idea to put my old 400W power inverter to use.

I ripped into the inverter, pulled out the two plugs, left the switch and warning lights in their stock places, cut holes in the center console for the 110VAC sockets, ran buttloads of wiring and got most of it done.

I went to finish it up today, tested the battery/ground to inverter connection and smoke started coming out of the inverter. GRRRRR!!! Yes, it was a cheap POS and it doesn't really matter but now I've got two new holes in my center console and without buying another inverter, the sockets are absolutely useless. Now I've got another idea 😉

I want to install flexible, telescopic map/reading lights in the two holes I've got. I've already run 10G wire from the battery to the passenger under-seat area and I've got a good ground point so...my only real problem is finding a similar product that I can use on its own. I also would have no problem building my own provided I could find conduit/tubing/whatever that is flexible (but stays where you put it, even while driving) and is also telescopic. High-power LED's will be installed no matter which way I go.

If any of you have any suggestions/links, PLEASE share!

Peace
