OK I slapped in my new mobo and.....NOTHING!!!!! So just do do it I changed out my CPU and........It worked. HUH! So I switched it back and nothing. Looks like my Barton is what REALLY took a dump, and it took my main HD with it. Now I have most of the important stuff backed up, BUT....... does anyone have any tricks to share to bring this drive to life for 30-40 minutes? It does not appear to even power on. I still have warranty but I would love to try and break this thing open to try and bring it to life. So if you have any tricks, please share.
 
Is the drive not responding at all? If you can at least get it to power up, go and set all your IDE settings in your BIOS to least rigorous (ie slowest settings).

Next, try to boot off another hard drive with a Windows install on it. That's my best bet for getting that hard drive recognised.

If, on the other hand, the hard drive does not power up at all, then I really don't know if you can do anything at all short of pulling it apart and rewiring the thing!! 😱

Well that is the issue. It is not turning on. I do not feel the drives spin at all. I am now debating if I want to try and rescue the data, or just RMA the thing.
 
You can try the freezer trick.

Place it in a sealed bag, and place it in the freezer for a bit to let it cool down. Take it out, and plug it in, and it might spin up long enough for you to get your data off it.

If the IDE circuitury is burnt out your stuffed ,the only (expensive?) hope left is to take the HD to a firm who do professional data recovery from the disks in a 'clean room'.

If the motor is just weak you could try jerking (twisting motion) the HDD from side to side (whilst powered) to see if that will get it spinning.
 
Thanks Garry, tried that! LOL (For those that do not know about the freezer trick, it works! I have done it a few times here at work and I have been able to ghost the drives every time, but that was for drives that were clunking and not actually dead).

I will try the motor thing. Otherwise I am just going to RMA it and just forget about it.
