ARGH! Who's more "wrong"?

So I was going to buy a dresser from someone on craig's list. Called, confirmed, and was going to pick up today with cash in hand. Wanted to pick up yesterday, but she had plans, so sure, I'll pick up today. Asked if my friend could borrow his parent's SUV to help me deliver it. He says he can do it, so he drove into work (yes, he lives with his parents...haha) in the SUV today. Everything's fine.

Then I just got an email from the seller saying, "Sorry, but I have donated the dresser to a local charity that also inquired." WTF?? I understand that charity is the better way to go, but she said she'd sell it to me. Keep your word. If anything, at least ASK ME if it'd be allright to donate to charity. But noooooooooooooooooooooo, the b!tch just went ahead and did it.

Maybe she got a higher offer and made up that charity crap. Who knows.

So, who's more wrong?

Her - cuz she's a wh0re for backing out of her word
Me - for ranting about this and wasting all your time

EDIT: email relaying

ME: Hi, was wondering if it?s still available. Thx.

ME: Hi again, I should?ve said that I?ll take your dresser if it?s still available. Lost out on other dressers by not putting it on hold 😛 LMK. Thx again.

DA HO: It is still available. Can you come tomorrow evening, Wednesday, around 7:00 pm? The address is [blah]. Please call to confirm.

ME: I just called my friend and he said that he can come tomorrow, so no need to change your plans. And just to confirm, the price is $50, yes? Thanks so much!

DA HO: yes. the price is $50. Please be on time tomorrow or call me if you are not able to make it at 7:00pm.

ME: Great! Thanks again. See you tomorrow.

DA HO: Sorry, but I have donated the dresser to a local charity that also inquired.

ME: Hi Kecia, that?s very nice of you, but I don?t? appreciate you backing out of our agreement. I already made plans for picking this up (cancelling plans, friend from Baltimore driving down, etc.). You can always donate the $50 to them instead. Thanks for nothing.

So far, no replies...don't expect one either.

Well that's stupid.
"Wanna buy my dresser?"
"Sure, I'll pick it up tomorrow."
"HA! Fooled you! There's no dresser!"

Although charity is a good cause (assuming she's telling the truth) she shouldn't have gone back on her word.

Well if we had a transcript of the exact dialogue maybe we'd be able to say it was some violation of her word. If it were me, I'd likely have done the same thing. It's not my fault you don't have the means to transport the item and have to go to some effort to pick it up.

Craig's list is not like ebay or some secure transaction. It's like an internet classifieds ad.

Just show up at her house in the SUV and keep honking the horn demanding a dresser. She'll either get the dresser back or the cops will come arrest you. Either way, everyone wins.

She's wrong. IF she was going to donate it to a charity, she should have at least asked you first. But I think she got a better offer.

she could have just sold you the dresser then given the money u was gonna pay for it to the charity that shop supports instead, would have made just as much sense....lol

Funny that you mention that. This was my reply to her email:

"Hi Kecia, that?s very nice of you, but I don?t? appreciate you backing out of our agreement. I already made plans for picking this up (cancelling plans, friend from Baltimore driving down, etc.). You can always donate the $50 to them instead. Thanks for nothing."

And for those of you who said "you have her address, you know what you must do" remarks, she's moving - which is why she is selling in the first place *snaps fingers*

Meh, it was low of her to renage on the deal. Even for charity.

But you might as well vent here and then just let it go. Its just a dresser and not worth the stress. 🙂
