Argh!!! Where are the X800XTs and the 939 Boards?!

Im getting sick of waiting. Im chomping at the bit to finally upgrade my P4 2.53 clunker 845G system to be ready for the next wave of DX9 games. The only X800's im seeing are the pro varients and the only available 939 board ive found is the ASUS A8V Deluxe(which I might go with anyways). What date should these all be readily available? My shiny new 3800+ is burning a hole in my desk!

XT's have appeared and disappeared sporadically.
Apparently the first lot shipped today.
Might have to wait for some more to arrive.

Just wondering, is it really neccessary to upgrade from a 2.53?? I'm fine with my 2.4 w/9700 pro...

Well, is anything we do with computers "neccessary"😉 Its my hobby so I like to keep fairly current, especially if I like to max out my resolution and detail for Doom 3 and HL2.

I am in the same position. I have a 3500+ sitting here in front of me and nothing to put it in! I am hoping DFI will release the Ultra-D 939 board soon. I also have an x800XT coming (hopefully within the next year) that I ordered almost a month ago! I need a MOBO!

im going to wait about another year till i upgrade my p4 2.53 w/ 9800np

right now, for me, it is an overk kill as i rarely game.

i bought this rig last year in anticipation of HL2 and doom3 and they still arent here
soon though it will be put to test.(hopefully)

DUDE!!

Today I saw both the 6800Ultra AND the 800XT on NewEgg. But then I checked back an hour later and the links were dead.

The eVGA GeForce 6800Ultra was $559 & a Gainward X800 XT was only $489'

Well, just like a bloated Federal Government construction project, the 6800 cards are over budget, and late! Some 'launch.'

As for the X800XT's, be patient Grasshopper:beer:

same with the 6800U . . . realistically available next month in quantity and perhaps w/o a premium price. . . . patience unless you wanna pay $50 extra (or get it from Gateway . . . never) :Q

whichever ships 1st less than $500 and i'm 'on it'. 😛

Chokes to BOTH nVidia and ATI for paper-vapor launching so damn far in advance 😛

. . . i wish there was a third reliable graphics co. 😉

I have a P4 2.4B oc to 2.57 on a IWill P4HT that has not had a bios update in over a year (I upgraded to it from an xp2000). I recently put another 512 megs of 2700 ram in it to bring it to a gig. The video card is a 9800 np. I have "upgradeitis" so bad I can't stand it since I've never gone so long without a major upgrade before. But there is just too much going on right now and these new video cards have not calmed down at all as far as price is concerned.
I decided to wait another couple of months and save some money. I was playing Painkiller just now and it looks decent at 1024x768 with eye candy at full. It is doing fine so far and it should be all right for awhile.
To be honest, I stayed away from this forum for a couple of months and was quite content with my computer. Now that I'm reading here again, I always leave feeling my system is inadequate and I "must" get a athlon 64 3200 on a Nforce3 board with at least a gig of ddr 3500 ram - and - I must have a $435 x800 xt. I'm looking at at least $950 of discontent.
I'll cave in, I usually do, but this time I think I can really be comfortable for a good while still. I don't think my current system will totally puke when Doom3 comes out. And anyway, why spend that much money to play a game that nobody knows how good will be? I can wait for prices to fall a bit form where they're at right now.

You think you have it bad? 😛

I UPGRADED ALL of my rig this last February (from a Tualatin Celeron @1.5Ghz and 384MB PC-133) to a P4 2.80C@3.31Ghz/Abit IC7g/ 1 GB PC 3500/ThermalTake 480w PS & Aspire case/120 Gig WD HD/Audigy2 LSd - even all the other "crap" [new 3.2 MP digi Canon/ Canon i860 printer/Nostromo n52 speedpad) . . .

and i have the same damn videocard - Radeon 8500-128MB - from TWO years ago!!! 😛

I just got Thief III (GREAT game BTW - i had to get an Audigy2 at the same time for the superb audio positioning) and DueSexII ($20 at WallyMart yesterday) . . . ***GAG*** puke *GasP!*

:Q

1024x768 with most details LOW - Thief III (and the "lighting" sucks since you need a DX9 card)

800x600 with ALL details LOW - DE-II.

I played a bit and then put them away . . . i just KNOW they LOOK so MUCH better than my card can display . . . and I have been WAITING and WAITING for BOTH nVidia and ATI to get off the POT and ship some damn cards.

Personally i don't feel too "loyal" or a "fan" of EITHER company . . . hasn't it been nearly SIX WEEKS SINCE THESE DAMn CARDS WERE LAUNCHED? Who has ONE [other than that pitiful X-"pro"]?

The X800 Pro was available the day ATI lifted the nda, as promised. The XT is/was slated to release a month later and it's beginning to trickle out now, what's the problem with that? As for nvidia, a massive core and new architecture, plus IBM fab is obviously gonna have some kinks to work out. ATI has a big advantage here using an existing architecture. I'll still be waiting for the final prices on GT's but if you need next-gen now, ATI delivered.

So wouldn't it be wiser to upgrade your components WHEN those 2 games come out? By then hopefully prices will have fallen, available is not an issue, and faster technology is introduced. All sources indicate HL2 wont come out until September. So is it worth it to upgrade your and videocard now just for doom 3 alone?

Yep, all 500 x800 pros - that first day - and they still continue their OVERinflated trickle. 😛

The problem is that it's been SIX weeks and even the lowly 12-pipe x800pro is in SHORT supply. There are NO x800XTs or ANY 6800s or ANY 6800GTSs.

A company should not release a product with the IMPRESSION that it will be shipping shortly.

If ati and nVidia weren't so intent on killing each other, perhaps they could launch their products CLOSER to the date they are actually AVAILABLE. 😛

no big deal.

DeuSex II is out; Thief III is out; Far Cry is out along with PainKiller - these damn HOGS need MORE than even a 9800 can provide. 😉

Hey I have seen the X800pro available on newegg every day until right now ! And I don;t think it was 500 cards. Where did you get that number ?

ATI delievered, and Nvidia has yet to deliver, thats a fact !

And my 9800pro does FINE at ultra high setting on Far Cry !

limited quantities😉
The pro is available at a premium - over MSRP.

I am bitchin about the lack of XTs - the real FLAGSHIP card. ATI expected it to ship LAST month - it launched its Radeon X800 on the 4th May and there is still no sight of any of the X800XT Platinum Edition parts five weeks later. (ok, it's not six weeks yet).

nvidia - the BIGGER culprit - launched 7 weeks ago. 😛

EDIT: NewEgg is OOS and SIXTY dollars over MSRP - do you really call the x800pro "available"? 😛

GIGABYTE ATI RADEON X800 PRO Video Card, 256MB GDDR3, 256-bit, DVI/TV-Out, 8X AGP, Model "GV-R80P256D" -RETAIL
**NON-REFUNDABLE ITEM. Exchange for same Exact Item Only!
In Stock - No / Our Price - $459.00

ATI has NOT delivered (either)

not in my book

2nd edit - good for you - others are complaining about the 9800pro and Far Cry; how much AA/AF can you run at what Rez and FPS?

True. However, in this industry, you could play the waiting game forever. At some point, you just have bite the bullet and do your thing. Will prices have dropped? Im sure they will. Will there be newer technology? Damn straight there will.

To me, it seems like a good time to upgrade, as nVidia and ATI just released their new cards and AMD just switched to the 939 socket. I still have other games like UT2004 that I could crank up image quality ten fold, and thats good enough for me.

All the 939 chips are priced too high. $700 is the cheapest 3800+, FX53 is like $820, man why not release some resonably priced chips w/ your new socket if you want people to migrate amd. I can understand if the FX53 is uber-expensive (like the Extremely Expensive P4), but come on what about people who aren't millionaires.

BTW, I'd wait for nforce3 boards, but i guess i'm sort of a via-hater.
