Television
Tivo
Digital Cable TV Box
DVD Player
VCR
HT Receiver

Wiring this all up is a friggin nightmare.

Have we gotten to the point that I can exile the VCR to a guest room and replace everything else with an HTPC on a wireless network?

I feel your pain.

Try having to reload a 300 disc DVD changer too. :(

LOL
I just swapped my den and our living room this weekend... I took the cowards way out and only pulled the TV and a couple speakers out of the entertainment center and put it on furniture sliders so as to avoid what you're going through right now.
As of right now, I've just got a PC and a DVD player hooked up to that TV, and I can see myself getting rid of the DVD player in a year or two. Finally ditched the VCR, since all we've been using it as for the last 1.5 years is a clock :p

I ditched the VCR when I moved and got a digital cable box with DVR included (didn't have a TIVO before this).

There's nothing on TV that is worthwhile to record.

Not all of us are lucky enough to have Romy & Michelle's High School Reunion on DVD...

im with Electric Amish on this one. there just isn't enough good stuff on tv for me to use a tivo. right now the only show i really watch is LOST. i do watch FX and TBS still all the time, but nothing new, just repeats of older shows.

and yes, redoing wires can be a pain. i redid my whole computer desk a few weeks ago, and now it looks alot nicer though. i got a bunch of twisties and i twisted up all the slack in the wires. it looks ALOT nicer now, and there aren't bunches of wires hanging behind my desk. if you have to rewire, i would recommend doing the twisty thing because it won't look like a mess were the wires are.

and i haven't had a VCR in probably over 5 years.

Depending on the make and model of the equipment you're whining about, if you have too many, feel free to give them to me... :D

we use replaytv to record survivor, amazing race, the apprentice, the bachelor and other so-called reality shows. just for the ability to not have to keep track of vhs tapes alone, it is worth it.

we keep the vcr around to watch certain "special" movies. ;)

the wife wants to move the tv and the setup to the opposite corner of the living room so i will soon be breaking down and rewiring but for a move of only about 15 feet :(. if the entertainment center were lighter i might consider lifting everything onto a dolly or even a moving pad and just dragging the whole thing over.

I don't use coax, I use component cables. 3x the number of cables that can be in the wrong hole jack... :(

Let's see:

TV
2 x DVD players (one solely for its DVD-A/SACD support)
Comcast HD set top box
receiver
850W amp for my sub
Dreamcast

At some point I need to pick up something capable of recording HD, and I still need to get a BFD to tune my sub properly. Oh, and I've been considering an XBOX (just so I can play some games in 16:9 480P).

I have a huge mess behind my A/V stand.

Well, currently we decided to have the unit cut accross a corner of the room. As long as it stays that way, I can have a nasty mess back there and noone will be the wiser...

I finally cut my VCR loose a few month ago and haven't missed it. With a DVR in the mix, there isn't any need of its recording ability, and I haven't watched any tapes in years.

I was thinking more along the lines of the TiVo and the receiver... :p

Oh, and the TV too!

Hell, why not give it all to me?
