Weird, i had something like that fixed. Basically playing basketball I had my toe stepped on. It killed the toenail and another one began growing on top. It happened a second time, thus having 3 layers of nasty looking dead and black toenail on my big toe on my right foot. It finally started getting sore, infected, and ingrown. They numbed (sp?) it and that was the worst part for me. Shots between your toes hurt pretty badly. But the recovery was suprisingly pretty quick.

I had an ingrown toenail removed the same way before (minus the cauterization though, i think).
They injected me 3 times, once on each side of the big toe and once near the top of it. I'd have to say that hurt worse than anything else. It would have only been 2 but the top of my toe didn't go numb from the 1st 2 🙁 . those were sharp pains, the pain i have now is like a dull throbbing pain.
