Argh! The next door neighbour is playing music WAY too loud.

It was the middle of the day and I'm trying to do some work and the 17 y/o neighbour is playing some pop, sing along music that could be heard a couple of streets away! What am I to do? Just swallow it and get on with my work? I could crank up my own NAD 100 Watt beast but that aint the point. I would like a little more serenity.

Depends on where you live, usually if its in the afternoon thers not much you can do besides ask them politely to turn it down. After certain times its disturbing the peace though.

1. shut down all electrical stuff in your house.
2. disconnect them from the electricity grid as well.
3. send a 10,000+ Volt powersurge into his house.
4. sit back and enjoy the firework.
5. reconnect your stuff again and continue your work.

<<You could just call in a noise complaint to your local police...>>

I don't want to make enemies of my neighbours. Elledan's idea sounds pretty good. 😉

Calling the cops will make them mad at you, but knocking them off the grid won't? 😀

I had a really mean suggestion all typed up, but it was a little on the illegal side, and I didn't want to get banned for suggesting it. And it would have probably gotten your neighbors in trouble with the power company.

Just wait until her friends are over, or during her birthday party and hook up your karaoke machine! Embarass them to submission!

I've got a similar situation (although not at this very moment as I'm at work, but i'm a part time student so I have to study at home), so I sympathise. My neighbours play music way too loud, I can hear it over the tv, and sometimes over the top of my own music. I called in the landlords, who said they would write to them, which I think has done the trick.

But if they did carry on, then I'm likely to call in the council as they can be prosectued and fined.

This is the advice that I have been given:

Go round and ask them nicely if they will turn it down. Some noise must be tolerated, so dont expect them to turn it off altogether. OR write them a letter.

If that fails, get someone in authority involved. They should make a formal complaint on your behalf. If that fails then they can be procescuted. (well, thats how it works in the UK!)

I had a similar situation a few days ago when my next door neighbors had some guests spend the night and their BIG dogs barked all night.

I just called and left a message on their answering machine the next day asking what we (I was being diplomatic) could do about the barking dogs problem and he has nice enough to call back and apologize and say that we won't ever be having that problem again.

My suggestion to you is to call or go over there and state your case. If he's cool, he'll turn it down. If he's a jerk, call and file a complaint. He probably doesn't want to make enemies out of his neighbors either.

BTW - my neighbors three houses down get together on Saturday mornings at 10 and play old Sabbath tunes. I just laugh it off cause they really never get any better, they just keep bashing out the sam old tunes every weekend.

During the day my music is LOUD, I never get any complaints from my neighbors. I hope I'm not driving them crazy and they just don't want to a big deal about it. :Q

Do you live in an apartment complex? And the noise maker next door? Or is this a house next to yours? I had trouble with a neighbor doing the same thing to me (I live in an apartment) I asked numerous times if he could please turn the music (bass) down after 10PM during the week. When he didn't comply I called the leasing office and they called and asked if he could kindly turn it down or asked to leave...Every night at 10PM the music (bass) is turned down.

Good luck, I know what you're going through!

I hate to say it, but I have a real hard time liking anyone who feels inclined to share their music with me too much.

Glad you aren't my neighbor! 😀 I have been doing it for almost three years now, so I am just going to assume they don't care. What kind of a foo would have a problem with loud music for three years and never complain?
