Ok, a long while ago I installed the SR-1 patch to Office 2000. Now whenever I try to change the installation (I want to add Excel) it gives me this error message:

The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable at this time.

Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package {insert huge product ID string here} in the box below.

Then in the box it lists the default path c:\windows\temp\sr1patch\

The problem is that (or what would be in that directory) is nowhere on my computer. Basically, I cannot change my installation at all, because it always gives me that error message. I can't even uninstall Office to start over! Does anyone know how I can get around this?

Have you tried installing SP 2? Win2k sucks. I hate it. BOO!!!!

Try putting in your cd and doing a repair.

I have tried installing SP2 - it just gives me that error message.

You can change the default path - but I dont know what it should be changed to. Thats the problem, I dont think I have the files that should be in that folder anywhere on my computer.

the default path.... isn't that supposed to be the CD? If I remember correctly. OFfice2k install/remove requires the CD. So the path should be the CD. have you tried that yet?

Nope, its not on the CD anywhere.

It seems that when I installed SR1 it put some files on my hard drive that let it know that I installed it. Somehow they were deleted and now it wont let me do anything to the installation because it cant find them. The Microsoft knowledge base hanst helped much either...
