Argh! Slow drivers in the fast lane rant!

GRRRRRRRR....

[Rant On]

I consider myself a safe driver - never had a ticket, accident, or incident (knock on wood!)... but I do drive in the upper end of the safe/not-get-ticketed speed range on highways. I'm more moderate on city roads b/c of pedestrians.

And I'm pretty mello about stuff - I just roll my eyes or honk at cut-offs, tailgaters... etc. Except for slow drivers in the fast lane! Argh, does that get under my skin!

I drive this one stretch of highway twice a day and everyone goes pretty fast on it, even in the slow lane. Still, its only 2 lanes in each direction, so most people are either going fast in the left or slow in the right... but I'm fuming at what I just saw:

The trucks and vans, slower cars, etc are going a good speed in the right lane while the faster of us are in the left - going past those in the right, naturally. Until a pack of us come up to this K-car driving in the fast lane that is going a fair bit slower than the speed limit and much slower than anyone else. The right lane is clear, yet she sits in the left - toodling along merrily. Cars creep up and signal that they want to pass... nothing. Finally the Gran Prix at the head gives up and zooms past in the right lane. And the next car.. and the next... finally I have to as well. After me there is a hill and the truck ahead in the right lane has to pull its weight up it so is slowing down... I am zooming along my merry way glancing in the rear view mirror at the spectacle of this lady (she wasn't old or anything) meandering along below the speed limit EXACTLY pacing the now struggling semi-truck as it slowly climbs the very long hill. About 100 cars are by now packed behind both in a now growing traffic snarl...

And she is still in the fast lane!!! ARGH! She had a dozen clear and safe opportunities to move over - at many points. She had no intention of moving, though, despite the 10 or so cars that had to overtake in the right lane before the semi slowing down trapped everyone else... and now despite the obvious and growing traffic jam she was creating.

you ever sit in traffic and wonder if it is really due to construction or an accident - not always! People like this are pacing semi-trucks!!!!

WHY?!

What the heck are these people thinking?! They are so oblivious to the traffic flow and other people! They are going to cause someone to do something rash and have an accident, or at least inspire a lot of road rage...

:|

[Rant off]

Ahhhhh..... much better! :)

What I sometimes do is pass them, get in front of them, then slow down to 10mph less than what they were traveling at and continue to do that until they move over into the right lane, or until I run out of patience/time.

Some people see it as their mission to control the traffic flow and stop any speeding.
Then some are just idiots that shouldn't drive.
Most of the traffic jam are caused by people like this. You should've passed her, and slam on the brakes. That'll wake her up.

This topic could in a new forum! :D

I may be full of crap, but some people who do not keep up with the flow of traffic, especially in the widely
accepted "fast lane", may cause some accidents and never know it. :disgust:

Gonna regret this, but I actually live in FL and very afraid of some elder drivers that are still on the roads. You really never know what they are going to do. Gosh, I hope this does't turn into an election thing! :Q

I think to solve your problem, you need to be driving a Ford Excursion... A car that size going that fast (if you remember from physics, Momentum = Mass * velocity = get out of my way sucker) will intimidate anyone driving too slow to move their butt into the next lane if they know what is good for them.

I can't stand those slow drivers either.

Another thing that bugs me are people who leave 1/4 mile or more gaps in front of them. I don't think we should all tailgate, but don't leave huge gaps in traffic!! Many more cars can get through lights, etc. if some people wouldn't leave huge gaps in front of them.

Optimus, I know whatcha mean. I always give 'em dirty looks when I pass 'em after that. They look at me crazy when I go around them running wide open (this is on ther interstate by the way). Yea, that's a good reason to have some road rage ;)

Yes, like her209 was alluding to, the Ford Dealer in the form of an Excursion. King of the road in that
monster. You could probably hit a yugo and not even know it... :D

SUV drivers always seem to speed. I hate them. One tried to pass me on a road which was 35 mph but i boxed him in between me and another car so he couldn't get around. Boy was he mad! LOL

Suicidal - yeah, reckless speeding is pretty bad, too - especially in giant SUVs.

But this instance was one where no one was in an SUV, and those trying to get past weren't going fast enough to get a speeding ticket if a cop had been there.

This lady was nutty, I tell you! :D

An additional rant are those idiots who speed happily along, until they need to change into your lane. They hurry, catch up, switch over, and then promptly slow down. What the heck, man?

slow drivers... bad drivers... usually old drivers... piss me off. Nothing against most elderly drivers, but I hate it when they don't see a light and react quick enough, or suddenly react out of anticipation.
EX: I almost killed this elderly woman once cuz she suddenly broke when the red hand on the green light stopped flashing.
EX: I had to wait 10 minutes behind this elderly gentlman who was making a left turn but didn't bother to go into the "left turn only" lane, so he held off traffic for miles back until he could safely cut 3 lanes to make a left turn.
EX: I don't like following little old ladies who can't see over the steering wheel very well and drive at 20 mph in a 35 zone.
EX: I don't like it when the street is curvy and they don't have much control over their car, so as I'm on their side, I get forced across the double yellow into head on traffic just so they won't hit me.
EX: I hate when half their car is in my lane.
Not trying to be mean, but I think there should be mandatory re-examinations every so often... or maybe more often than it is now; for everyone... teens, adults, elderly.
Just so the roads are a safer place for us all. Uh-oh... better put on my abestos suit. :)

Yah, slow drivers in the fast lane suck. I can't explain the suv'ers, they are in a class of their own. Old people drivers are THE worst, i've had so many close calls with them pulling out in front of me, usually end up me slamming on the breaks and spinning the car around and almost hitting things like telephone poles and signs.
