arGh! - Pri Master Hard Disk: S.M.A.R.T. Command Failed (what do i do now?)

I was messing around with some software. It froze my win2k comp. When I say froze I mean it won't restart with the ctrl-alt-del! So I had to push the power button.

After that when ever I restart I always get this message (my Primary hd - 20GB Maxtor):
Pri Master Hard Disk: S.M.A.R.T. Command Failed
Press F1 to Resume

It's not like my hd died or something. S.M.A.R.T. is just something that detects if the hd is gonna die or not. But how do I disable S.M.A.R.T.? I couldn't find it in the bios.

I've tried some of Maxtor's recovery software and it didn't do the trick.

Any suggestion (other then format)?

I went into the bios for my 5th time and still can't find anything related to S.M.A.R.T.

I'll try to update my bios and see what happens.

Disabling SMART features, is usually done through manufacturer's software, well at least on my Quantum you do. Check the manufacturer's site.
