I just installed a new pentium3 1Ghz/133fsb cpu. I was running an 800/100fsb for a long time with no problems. When I try to boot at 1Ghz i get: the mobo bios rev. 1006a, processor (Intel Pentium III 1000mhz...etc), memory check, then PNP Init Completed. (All these lines are normal) Then it just stops...

I flashed to the newest bios for the cusl2 and it did nothing. also I am using a svc Golden Gate HSF (Gladiator) with my idle temp (cpu@750mhz) at 16C/60F according to pcprobe, so i don't think its a heat issue. voltage is at the required 1.75v for the 1Ghz cpu's.

I can clock down to 533e and 750 and it will boot into windows. what the hell is going on? Please look at my system link in my sig to see my config. Everything was working FINE before I put in this cpu.

I will be back in a couple of hours. I am looking forward to your replies.

thanks.

Try a different stick of pc-133 ram (or just one if you have 2)

Otherwise I agree with cattlegod, return that cpu.

CUSL2 won't run at 1ghz? That's really weird, I agree wth the previous posts except that MNB does support 133fsb. Could be yer ram if you are mix matching Pc-100 and Pc-133.
In the bios check to make sure she ain't overheating.
Make sure it's getting the right voltage.
Other than that the chip might be fubarred, although since it does work at 550 then it leads me to belive something else is up.

You need either a new BIOS download or a new motherboard. It seems that your motherboard doesn't officially support a 133MHz bus so there is no 1/4 divider for your PCI bus which you need.

Hey thanks for all the replies. I bought this cpu from compuwiz, so i'm sure its legit. Yes, my mobo does support a 133fsb. I guess I'll have to get in touch with compuwiz.

Did you check hardware set-up CPU External Frequency Settings on the board (DSW)? All dip switch settings must be off for jumperfree mode.
Could cause your problem.

I think it was the memory. I pulled out both sticks, and traded their places and now it works. Picky little bitch. :)

thanks guys.

The chip is the real McCoy, he got it from me. Wah, you have mail with some suggestions. Also, as mentioned, please be sure all the DipSwitches on the board are in the jumper free mode. Make sure you are 133:133:33 (133MHz FSB, 133MHz SDRAM, 33MHz PCI bus). You have a 1/4 divider that starts at 133MHz fsb.

Please email me back with the results. I'll help where I can.

Edit: Looks like you got it. :D

What the heck are you talking about? The CUSL2 is an i815E board, which for sure supports a 133 MHz FSB with a 1/4 PCI divider.
