Components:

Athlon 64 3200+ Newcastle (newest revision, I think) retail HSF
2 x 512MB Crucial RAM
Sound Blaster Live!
Asus K8N-e Deluxe
Antec Sonata with 380 watt truepower PSU
200GB Seagate hard drive
Geforce 2
Geforce 4

possibly other stuff I'm forgetting

Okay, I throw it together, boot, and get no video. I plug in some speakers, and hear "System failed due to CPU overclocking"

I'm not going to overclock, and I haven't even gotten in to the BIOS yet anyway, so nothing should BE overclocked.

I unplugged, pulled the battery, switched jumpers to clear the CMOS and stuck it back in.

Now I don't get a vocal error at ALL, but I still get no video. I swapped video cards (Geforce 2 to Geforce 4), tried both DVI and analog with both, pulled out absolutly everything except one of the video cards, and one stick of RAM.

Nothing. No video, no vocal errors.

Any ideas? This is the first AMD system I've tried in years (after a BAD experience)...and this isn't exactly giving my confidence :(

Yeah :(

I'm going to pull it out of the case, and stick it on a cardboard box ala Mechborgan's (sorry if I spelled that wrong) guide.

Me not like this. And of course I would have to have girl problems at the same time as my new computer's not working :(

Tried that. Stuck it on a box. No difference. No video. If I had a PCI video card here, I'd give that a try, but I don't have one here.

Any ideas? Is it this board's AGP slot or something?

No ideas? I'm not sure what to do. RMA the motherboard? (I can't return it or I probably would) I'm assuming I'd have to buy and apply thermal stuff to the CPU if I remove it, and I don't know if it was working either. Grrr... Right now I wish I hadn't ordered any of it.

Goto the Asus website and check for Troubleshooting tips on your motherboard. If they have a Messageboard check it out, Search, or post your problem there.

Are there any Jumpers on that Motherboard for FSB? If so, try the lowest setting available(probably 100 or 133) and see if it boots fine. If it does, check the website for a BIOS update, update if available.

I had the same problem with the same mobo except it never gave me any audio errors. I rma'd it to newegg. Mine had a 3400+ corsair xms pro ram 2336 and a geforce 2 mx or 6800 gt.

Did the next one work? Do you have to reapply thermal stuff to the cpu since it's already been used?

Honestly I'm so pissed off about this I don't know if I want to swap motherboards, or just return everything.

I sent my mobo out yesterday so I can't tell you yet. Thermal Greese is pretty hardy stuff so I'd imagine it's ok to leave the cpu/heatsink together while you wait for a new mobo.
