WinXP is acting up on me again. It won't boot in...it says it's missing a file:

Windows\System32\Config\System

It says I can attempt to run repair through the setup. I stick my CD into my CD-Rom drive...but this error still comes up. In the BIOS, I have already prioritized the boot order (CDROM, C, A). I boot into my old Win98 CD and select Boot From CD > Start command prompt with CD-Rom support. I take out my Win98 SE cd and put in my XP cd and try to run setup through the cd. It says I can't run setup through DOS.

Argh I'm stuck and my PC won't boot! Can anyone help me? Thanks!

Uh hey tough guy, ever hear of having more than 1 PC?

Oh yeah, for some reason my floppy drive doesn't work. It never has...for some odd reason. ASUS A7A266...I've checked the cables and have tried 2 different floppy drives. Neither works. BIOS will detect it but it'll hang my WinXP (back when XP was still working) if I tried to access a floppy. So I can't boot from a floppy...argh.

Admittingly, I don't have a legit XP cd. Not everyone can afford one. I plead for help 🙁

So since I can't afford a Viper, it is ok if I just steal one from someone and use it?

Odd. I've got an XP Pro CD with "XP Pro" written in black marker on the top of it. Boots just fine for me 😉

Not that I'd know, but there are several versions running around. Some bootable, some not 🙂

Can I see if one of my friends has a bootable XP cd and try to run repair using their CD?

Funny...I don't think anyone in my school has a legitimate XP cd (honestly). Not every 16 year old can afford a $300 piece of software (WinXP Pro)

It's not a question of could you, more of should you.

(but yes, it should work fine.)
