DAMN THIS PEICE OF ******.

I haven't been on anandtech on a while becuase I've been really busy, but I felt the need to post this thread and rant.

For one week, my connectionn's been going slower then ******!

I ran a www.DSLReports.com test while disconnecting my wireless network and connecting my modem to one computer (which I made SURE wasn't downloading or uploading anything at the time).

It said

THIS IS WORSE THAN 56k.

My dad is paying for 768k.

And yes, I've restarted my router multiple times.

I'm having a hard time getting my work done and doing researching with this peice of crap.

Any tips? I'm using Verizon and I'm in MA.

My dad called them, they mentioned some BULLSH*T that too many people were signed up in our area and that might be causing problems.

I think it all depends on when & who you talk to. For years, when Verizon first offered dsl, we payed for 768 & received half that. I complained & complained. They kept giving me the run around. Last year I called in the morning & got a kid probably as old as I am. He wondered what the problem was, checked my account, & a minute later I was at 768.

I made a call like that again last week, since I was stuck at 768, yet paying for 1.5. Ends up I qualify for 3.0 & have been enjoying it ever since.

I always though congestion was a cable problem. I'm not sure what to say except keep at it. Keep politely hassling them.

Comcast SUCKS in our area. We had them last year, peaktimes were terrible. Although not as bad as what I'm experiencing now. It was probably ~128k on peaktimes (we paid for 1.5mbps).

Absolutely horrendous. Hell, it takes me a full minute to post.

Ok is your dad compute literate? If not - they will BS him to death. Get on there talking about pings/traceroutes, lag, and nslookup's they will get you to a level 2 tech that will do something. If they an convince a newb that his service is 'normal' they did their job on level 1.

why do people even get DSL?

Where I am at, in a rural area, it is the ONLY choice. The local craptacular cable company offers it but with a 5 gig a month cap (yea you read it right).
