Well, I tried ordering DSL again today (last time they told me my wires were too old) and they said I have fiber optic wires outside and they don't carry the DSL signal! So now I am forced to go to Comcast. First thing I am going to do is DROP MCI (they require you to get phone service in order to get dsl) and go back to verizon or AT&T or even IDT (39.99 for unlimited local and long distance, sounds like a good deal?). I called comcast and they told me they don't offer digital phone in boston however they told me there is a new technology coming. They said by the end of the year they will start to offer Phone over IP (I bet everyone knew this but its new news to me). So basically I'll be able to use my phone service over my internet connection. By then hopefully they'll make a package and keep their high speed internet prices lower. Until then I guess I'm stuck with MCI + dialup. BTW does anyone know if Phone over IP will have features like Caller ID? Does anyone have a link to a story about this technology?

There are tons of VoIP providers already available, Packet8 and Vonage for example.
Just get cable and one of those.

Comcast have VoIP here...

But it is true, if you have fiber, you can't get DSL... how ironic....

No cable?

DSL wasn't avaiallbe in my area (old neighborhood), but there was cable available. (Though noncable lines setup within the house itself.) Great thing about it though, is that I'm like the only person with cable internet in the area which means great speeds.

How much is VoIP there?

There are tons of VoIP providers already available, Packet8 and Vonage for example.

I thought most of those are to make calls to people only with VoIP? Plus I want to be able to use my telephones instead of going to the computer to make a call.
No cable?

No money. I feel that 55 dollars a month for Comcast is just too much compared to DSL (Even if it is significantly faster).

No and no, you plug your phone into the vonage box. You can also wire it into your phone box or buy expandable wireless handsets.
