Don't even get me started on these frickin' things. A year ago, I washed my contacts with tap water because I was in the middle of nowhere (okay, Eastbourne for you UK folks) and had no cleansing fluid. When I got home I cleaned them properly, and didn't put them back in until then. I can only guess that something got onto the lense and wasn't cleaned off properly. My mistake.
However, a few days later, my left eye started hurting really badly, and then a few weeks later, it started swelling like a bitch. I had a pea-sized lump on my left eyelid, and all the doctor said to do was to hold a hot towel against it for as long as I could. It stayed with me for about six weeks and then finally went down. Every now and then it comes back up again a bit (nowhere near as bad), and at the hospital appointment, they said they couldn't cut it out because there's nothing to get hold of, or something retarded like that.
Suffice to say, I can never rub my eyes, and have to wash my hands all the time. It absolutely sucks, and I really feel for you aphex. I can wear my contacts again, but have to thoroughly disinfect my hands before handling them.
Hell, it was so bad then when I joined the company I'm with a year ago when this all started, I was given permission to be left out of the mugshots that are mandatory because it was so unsightly. Wearing dark glasses and being entirely self-conscious was horrible. I'm glad that it's gone down for now, but every time I get a pain in my eye (or an ache), I start worrying if it'll come up again.
