ARGH!!! I hate living above an old lady....

Good to know someone else has this problem. The Landlord came to us today and told us the people under us were moving out because they never got to sleep because of the noise. We were like "wtf?". I work from 3-11pm so my only free time is late at night(I can't go straight to bed after work). I never play my music loud, or do anything out the ordinary. The only thing I can think us is that maybe we are just "heavy-footed". The landlord offered for us to move in the apt. below, but I don't want the hassle of transfering my phone,electric....etc. Unfortunately, she says if someone else moves in and comes to us with the same complaint, she will have no choice but to evict us. So yeah, I feel your pain...
 
I have been in both situations.

I just left a place in Panama City, Fla where I could hear everything my upstairs neighbor did. That wasn't the worst though. They are really loud. I think they like to body slam each other or something because the plaster would start falling down. I called them Stompy McStompzilla.

I didn't complain though. I have a"Man's Home Theater" system. So, I guess I could have been loud too.

The other instance was in Oklahoma City. I would play CS using my 5.1 speaker system (5.1 was a bombdiggity back in the day). Well, everyone who plays CS knows that days can go by in like 2 hours. It might be 5AM and I am still there screaming at the monitor. Well, the lady next door called the Apartment police. By the time they had arrived, I was already done and sleeping. bah!

 
Does anyone else have a problem with neighbors complaining in apartments? What would you do... I dont mean to keep her up, but geeze, we can even do ANYTHING without her calling to complain to us....

That is the #2 reason why the wife and I bought our own house 4 years ago. We were living in the middle of a 4 unit building of 2 story townhouses. We had the "manager" on one side who would go to bed at 7 or 8 during the summer months and a family with 3 kids, who basically all went to bed around 8 or 9, on the other side. So basically we had to be whisper quiet after 8 almost all of the time. Having walls that were thin enough for me to listen to the TV in one of the other units if it were relatively quiet didn't help either.

The neighbors with the kids was even complaining while we were moving out on a Saturday afternoon that we were being too loud. We politely told the mom, who did most of the complaining, to go to hell on our way out 🙂

I'll never live in an apartment again, I'm just too loud to be. I'd rather move the family and all back in with my parents before I live in another apartment. Especially now since the wife doesn't get off of work until Midnight and I'm regularly up until 1 or 2.
 
You are providing a valuable service. Old people like to bitch, and you have given her a new reason to do so.
You should be commended for doing your part to make an old lady happy.
 
We have a similar problem.
We live in a condo. The idiots below us keep complaining that we have hardwood floors and move them around and scrape the floor late at night. Only problems is we have carpets EVERYWHERE except the washrooms and kitchen. And I can tell you the noise doesnt come from us. I told them to come up and check it out a million times, but they refuse and keep complaining. I'm thinking of calling them up and complaining that their banging the ceiling or something stupid like that.
 
Man I feel everyones pain. I'm so glad to have a house now.
My previous underneath neighbors were pretty cool though. They would party and listen to music loud, but onyl for like 30 minutes a day or so. I think ti was when they were getting ready for work. And since our kids were always running around, we figured we wouldnt complain about there music since they didnt complain about our animals (kids).
Worked out well, but still damned glad to have a house.

I like the idea of very loud sex though. 😀
 
I live above an old lady. She's very nice. She has her TV up really loud sometimes though. The only thing she does that pisses me off is have control of the radiators. The colder it is outside, the hotter it is in my room.

It got down to -12°F last year. That morning it was 98°F in my room. 98!
 
I cam thumping along in my car and the old lady huffed and moaned and asked me "why do you have to play that racket so loud" and I turned and replied "that's the minimum volume, it won't go down any lower....bye...."
 
I have a pretty good relationship with my downstairs neighbor. She's told me they often hear my cats fighting (they get LOUD flopping around on the floor), but doesn't complain. I hear her and her hubby screaming at their kids, but I don't complain. Works out perfectly.
 
she's 70, doesn't have a job likely or any real reason to wake early. she should adapt to your schedule, she has no pressing need to sleep early
 
Tell me about it. We had a Funda Mental Case Old Biddy for a Landlord. One good thing about it though is that she was to scared to confront me but she gave my GF grief. We finally moved to a friends place (Third Floor flat) and now all we have to contend with is hearing them fight once a week. Well at least we can shut the doors.
 
LoL... Our new downstairs neighbors don't complain at all.. Pretty cool actually. Of course, my going to bed at 8:30 every night might have something to do with it...

But on weekends they're entertaining: I guess the wife/girlfriend is bi. The hubby/bf is always yelling at her for looking at guys, and she SCREAMS, "You know I only like girls!!!" :Q

Every time I give my wife a look (you know what look) and she throws a pillow at me. 😛
 
be loud, but do it only when u can. that way the 'authorities' cant do anything, and she'll just have to get used to it.
 
Thats the main reason I bought a house, I couldn't stand having quiet hours and hearing babies cry or old women b!tch
