How the heck do I get a picture into a header?

my first suggestion is to change your view so that you can see all the page breaks.

do not use the print view.

make sure all your pages have page breaks then start at the top with your pic in the header.
 
In a way, I think that the invention of headers/footers is just behind the invention of letterhead as document creation's most complicating factor that we'd all be better without. I freaking *HATE* letterhead and the letterheadaches that come with it. More paper ends up in the wastepaper basket due to letterhead misprints than anything else. Right behind it is jacked headers/footers.
