Argh, Comcast woes... static IP?

Argh, well, I had my comcast cable modem for a week... now my parents have had comcast for 4 years, and as far as I know their IP has never changed... and right now, my linux server is over at a friend's house, who is on comcast, and HE has had the same IP for 4 months now....

So I plug in, and what happens? My IP is static for all of one week. WTF? I have gotten 3 new addresses today. What gives???

Make sure you don't turn off your computer...

Leave something downloading in the background CONTINUOUSLY.

Yes, thanks, I know it's not SUPPOSED to be static, but in my experience with 4 systems in two locations, I've never yet seen a comcast IP change... Comcast was my last resort, as it seems that my new house cannot support DSL. (fiber somewhere in the lines...)

pay for Comcast Pro, it's not static but it has a life of 6 months, so it's virtually static. 🙂
