Ok Im building a system for my dad... Its an MSI board with the K8t800 Pro chipset. This board supports SATA1. The drive is SATA2, Im under the impression it shouldnt matter and that theyre backwards compatible(?)

Anyways, the BIOS doesnt detect the SATA hd plain and simple, so I can't begin Windows installation... Any ideas?

There is a jumper on the SATA2 drives to make it work with SATA1. If you don't set the jumper then the system won't know what to do with it and it won't work.

It being a VIA chipset, it may not work regardless. Good luck, though :)
