argh a firmware flash killed my cd and dvd burner

I just got the latest firmware for my 40x lite-on cdrw and clicked "update" and it crashed...now after a reboot my sony 500ax dvd burner as well as my cd burner don't show up anywhere 🙁

Looks like I gotta boot up in dos mode and try to "force flash" both of them...
 
I look at firmware updates as a game of russian roulette.

I hit the enter key, close my eyes, turn my head away, cross my fingers and think happy thoughts until it's over.

I've had too many firmware updates nuke equipment to feel good about doing it.
 
Yea, but the beauty of it is spectacular when it works!! I did a firmware upgrade on my Sony 24x cdr and it improved the speed by 30% or so.
