pulse8, is your lawyer friend aware that you're month to month? Also, a landlord telling you that the place isn't available for rent again in a month or 2 (or lease ends) in advance isn't 'eviction'. I'm pretty sure the law you're quoting is in regards to landlords breaking leases to set up for condos.
The law I'm quoting IS in regards to that. People were saying that they can just get rid of us whenever they want for whatever reason they want. I'm not debating that there's anything wrong with the rent increase. They are within their right to increase the rent unless the increase is meant to drive us out of the building.
