So I bought X3:Terran Conflict and started the download before I left for work.. I get home and wanna play..

So.. It asks me to install the Tages drives. Okay.. Done..

Then, it says I gotta activate.. And every time it says 'contacting server' and then 'unable to contact server'..

Apparently I don't get to play the game I bought because of the GODDAMN FUCKING SHIT FUCK DRM!!!!!

When I bought X3:Reunion, I had to buy an internal dvd-rom drive because their shitty copy protection wouldn't work with my external USB 2 drive (my only drive until I bought the internal one).

This is getting out of hand.. I'm a freaking computer geek. I program for a living.. This copy protection is stupid as hell.

But, but, but....without this invasive DRM, pirates would take over and PC game sales would drop to zero.

I know the feeling. I'm a hardcore computer dork and some of the stuff to get modern games to work is still mind boggling. For example, did you know Grand Theft Auto 4 cannot be started from Rockstar Social Club? That's the program Steam launches when I click "launch". When I click "play" in social club, it says my installation of Vista needs Service Pack 3 or higher (what the fuck planet has a Service Pack 3 for Vista?). If I go to the directory itself and run GTAIV.exe, it starts fine. As you guessed, Rockstar Social Club is a form of DRM required to play the game and it does a fantastic job of preventing thousands legitimate customers from playing the game.

Also, I can't play Gears of War online because the game says my CD key is wrong even though it has no place to enter a CD key. Figure that one out.

I can deal with entering a product key and making sure I have the game disc in the drive but what I will not stand for is mandatory product activation and limited activations on top of that.

I won't buy any game that requires:
*Product key activation.
*Has a limited number of activations.
*Requires an Internet connection to play.
*Has a non-transferable product license (this is why I don't like Steam).
*Has any sort of file monitoring/phone home statistics.

If that means I miss out on some "really great games" then so be it.

My favorite is putting the disk in and the DRM refusing to detect the retail disc...then going though weeks of back and forth with official support tickets and support forum posts without a solution. By then, it was too late to return it.

The goddamn Tages authorization site is still down.. I still can't play my fucking game. I have two days off where I can afford to sit and veg.. and instead, I get stressed out because a game I purchased won't fucking work.

When I bought The Witcher from England (uncensored) for extra money, the Tages servers were down the whole time for me. They never worked.

Jeez I just noticed the TAGES thing with the Steam X3:TC ! And I can't run the game (wanted to give it a spin today) cause it fails to connect to the authentication server! Even the manual "HTTP" way fails, server times out. This shit is seriously f'ked up !

EDIT: Servers still down. After looking around it seems this issue was there during the whole holiday time. I mean the LEAST they could do is make sure the games using TAGES are playable after purchase during the holidays when people actually have time to play them !
