Damn it, everytime I turn my car off and then touch the door to close it I get a nice buzz! What the hell?! I'm like scared to touch my car door now. Anyone know how to avoid getting shocked?

You driving standard?

It used to always happen to me when I drove stick.
I figured it was from my foot constantly rubbing with the floor matt when clutching.
I got around it by pushing on the window to close the door.

I AGREE. This phenomenon truely sucks. It happens on my doorknobs also. I just suck it up and deal. Trying to actually solve the problem would take too much time and energy.

I've become afraid of touching all metals because of this. When I get out of my car I make sure to slip out between the door and the other side, and then close it with the window. I hate getting a shock!

i'd been doing the same thing also. Not only that, sometimes when i got to the supermarket and open their fridge to get a gallon of milk, it shocks the hell out of me, even just barely touching the metal shelves.

If you say nice things to your car, it will stop shocking you.

LOL! I'll try that!:)

I drive a 2001 Civic and it's automatic. This never happened to me when I had my old car, an 85 Camry. Now it happens everytime.

Good idea with the glass, I'll do that from now on unless someone has a better idea.

The wife's Tahoe does that to me every time and it's done it for so long now that whenever I drive it and get out I have like some sort of subconcious memory that just knows I'm going to get shocked a split second before it happens.

Just wondering...do you all live in colder climates cuz' it would make sense since static is more prevalent in cold conditions.

Doesn't happen here in Florida and I'm not bragging! I hate friggin' hot a$$, muggy winters!:disgust:

Quick search on google finds that supposedly you can stop the shock if you touch your keys on a metal part of the car (door handle) before getting out of the car.

I heard it has something to do with the tires?? Apparently it's not you building the charge inside the car. It's the friction of driving the car through air that builds the static charge and since the tires prevent it from grounding it discharges when you step on the ground and make contact with the car frame.... or maybe I just made that up anyway it's a good theory and I'm sticking with it :)

I tried touching my keys before I get out today. It did not work, I still got the buzz I always do. I also tried touching metal stuff inside that car, but that doesn't work either.

If I try to close the door by bumping it shut my thigh or elbow (depending on which I use) gets buzzed. It seems like I will get shocked if any part of my body touches the car door.

By the way, I live in CA, so it's not that cold, but it is winter, so maybe it'll happen less in the summer.

as i learned earlier today-- aperently there is a strip of metal that you can hang from your car that helps to ground it--- so you dont get shocked.. I dont know any of the details but i'll hook you up with a link if i find anything

try wrapping all metal surfaces in duct tape. It may not be pretty but it ought to solve the problem. Alternatively you could strap a metal cable to your arse to ground yourself.

This happened to me a lot during last summer. It hasn't happened in a while.

Damn annoying, though.

wouldnt those things ground your car, making lightning strikes dangerous even if your in the car?
