shouldn't i NOT have to have audio cables w/ a brand new computer?

i thought they were just for old school stuff

the idea here is just to play cds on computer

audio cables are still being used today... they are not limited to old school stuff...

He's talking about the cable that connects the CD-Rom drive's audio out to the sound card...
 
with win2k or xp you can just use the existing IDE cable by selecting use Digital signal or whatever under the cdrom properties.
 
Ulric, use the CD-ROM's DAE so that the signal would not have pass the flimsy 2-wire(aka Digital) or 4-wire(aka Analog) and be susceptible to interference.
