this is the second time this has happened on the same console, same fan.
The left side (when looking from behind) fan stops working. I have to crack open the case and run it without the top cover on to play/watch anything, and that poor single fan left over works double time.

Last time I just let it ride like that for a while, and eventually the other fan kicked in again (go figure). I've tried diagnosing it taking a PC case fan and seeing which leads off the PCB were for each fan. The weird thing is I can only get a little "tick" (not even a full spin, just a spasm) when I touch 1 specific combo of the leads. (I'[m no electrician as you can see).

Maybe its time to break down and buy one of those replacement fans for $25.

Well why would you open it and void the warranty or was it past the time it had on it?

Maybe this is an opportunity to improve the cooling and add fans directly onto the heatsinks.

I love your logic:
1) Xbox fan stops working DAMN!!!!
2) Xbox fan miraculously comes back to life YAY!!!!!!!!!
3) Xbox fan stops working again (same fan as before) WTF????

That said it sounds like your Xbox has seen better days...
