ARG!!! Stupid MP chips!

I have been fighting trying to get a dual AthlonMP 1800+ setup to recognize CPU0. No matter what setting or configuration I do, I keep getting a BIOS message at boot saying that CPU0 is MP incapable. Both chips work fine on their own and in both sockets. The motherboard is an ASUS A7M266-D board. Currently only vid and a RAID board are in the expansion slots. The video is a Radeon 8500 AIW. I have (2) WD Limited Edition 80gig drives hooked up to the RAID card, a Mitsumi burner on IDE1 and a DVD-RAM on IDE2. No floppy on this system.
What do I need to look at on the CPU to ENUSRE that this IS a MP processor and not a plain XP. This has been giving me fits for a couple of days now and I need to have this thing done soon. Anybody ever encounter this prob or something similar????
BTW, this is a fresh system and has no OS installed. That is a completely different story.
 
You should see something along the lines of AMP1800DMS3C. Look at the L1 bridges, they should all be closed as they are factory unlocked. L5 bridges should be configured for SMP.
 
also, if you can get the computer to boot, the MP 1800+ is slower then the XP 1800+ (i think the MP is 1.4ghz, the XP is 1.53).

No the MP 1600 is 1.4GHZ. PR Ratings are the same for all AThlonXP/MP
 
Ok, I found out the deal. I ordered both from Accubyte. One of them is an MP the other XP. Dumb for me not noticing and dumb for them botching the order. But they are both extremely similar so I can understand.

Just connect the L5 bridge on the xp, it sees it as an MP.

If he paid MP prices, i doubt he wants to modify the XP to an MP, seeing he will lose the warranty.
 
For future reference....would the pencil trick work on the L5 bridges or would I need the conducting fluid to do it?

Not on the Palominos.. they have laser cuts and the pencil just wont do the trick.

 
draw around? Not really much room to do that.

I guess the conductive pen will have to do the trick. Does the voltage across the L5 bridge matter as much as the L2?
