Hummmm.....

I saw Sugarcult, Pete Yorn, Jimmy Eat World, and the Hives at the Hammerstein Ballroom in NYC last night.
Great concert.
By the end of the show I had gotten to the second row of the concert, amidst all the girls screaming how much they love the lead singer and guitarist of the Hives. The Hives rocked. Fast and...loud.

So I leave the concert and realize my ears are ringing/humming. No big deal, my ears usually ring after a concert. My ears are also buzzing, which was new, but it wore off after around an hour.

So I wake up this morning, and my ears are STILL humming. Crap! How long is this gonna last? Usually its only a few hours.
Yes, yes, I know there are earplugs, but I figured I'd have no chance to get so close at a concert like this.

Awesome night anyway...hummmmzzzmm.

Hope you enjoy your permanent hearing damage :D I know I did ;)

Buzzin/partial deafness should be completely gone within 24-48 hours.

It might last a couple days.
Or forever.
My boss has tinnitis. It sucks.

I am an absolute earplug junkie. I keep them in my car, in my camera bag, in my drawer. Almost anywhere I can think of, I have a stash. I never go to concerts without them.

If you go up towards the front, take some earplugs. It will help make it sound better and protect your ears. It wont hurt to stand there and listen.

I usually hang out near the soundboard myself. It's the best spot in house soundwise, since the guy mixing it will be standing right behind you.

A friend that I work with went shooting with some friends. One of his friends ran over, put a .357mag up next to his ear, and shot down range. He could barely hear anything other than loud ringing for three weeks and had to take time off of work due to severe headaches.

Mullein - an herb available in a homeopathic tincture - as an eardrop sometimes helps after the concert.

But it is best to prepare in advance with earplugs.

That show sounds awesome. I've been going to a lot of concerts the last few years and I can say that they don't *seem* as loud as they used to. Well, until I goto Ozzfest Saturday. I'll get back to you on that one.

tinnitis.. I have it too. Takes a long time to get used to it, but you can. Strangely I always have taken care of my ears. Never into loud music, always wearing ear plugs at work, etc.

Its important to remember hearing loss due to loud noise is permanent and cumulative. (sp?)

What really sucks is when you have it, putting in ear plugs just turns up the volume of the ringing.

Hope it goes away for you.

Sugarcult was really good, but in a lineup like that, they were the opening band so didn't have a long set. Stuck in America and Bouncing off the Walls got people moving, but they covered the Ramones "Sedated" and everyone went insane. Original cover there, I know :)

Pete Yorn did an accoustic set, just him and a guitar.

Jimmy Eat World was awesome..."Sweetness" was blistering and brought down the house.

Ugh, its been 17 hours or so and its still there. Its like I'm underwater. Blub, blub.

Anyone remember those comercials about tinitus like 10 years ago? I remember some guy on a motorcycle and a voice over.

my ears rung and rung for a month or so after I stuck a q-tip in my ears to dry it. Doing that gave me an ear infection and lead to the ringing. Couldn't hear in that ear for about a month and then all of a sudden today my hearing improved dramatically.

Sugarcult......Jimmy Eat World....... What has music become these days??

If you are gonna have some hearing damage, better to at least enjoy some Iron Maiden, Dio, W.A.S.P, Manowar, or some other awesome metal band. Today's music suuuuuuxxxxxx!

Lots of music has become power-pop-punk (inspired by Green Day, etc.) which I can handle, or nu-metal (a bastardization of grunge maybe? Creedified? With a little bit of bastardized Tool and/or Rage Against the Machine?) which I usually don't like.

But the Hives are kind of retro/raw/punk-ish who became popular once the Strokes (who I don't like that much) became popular. The Strokes opened the door for the White Stripes and the Hives imo.

Don't get me wrong, I've got the Master of Puppets CD playing right now. All music today doesn't suck... just a chunk of it does :)

And talk to me when you are in the second row of a huge venue in front of 10 speakers and the Hives are playing "Mad Man" or something. buzzzzzzzzzzzzz...
