On a dsl connection, with a router in NAT mode, I can't seem to open up the ports on a linksys 4 porter router/wireless befw11s4.

I have one computer behind the router setup on it's own ip address (not dhcp -- but I tried that too).

I tried forwarding 21 and 20 to put an FTP server out there... nada

Tried forwarding 80 and setup a webserver ... nada

I even tried forwarding 2121 and ran the ftp server on there ... nada

I'm forwarding both TCP/UDP .. it's all enabled .. I can access the server's web and FTP from other computers on the local network. What the heck can I be doing wrong?

I can ping the router.
Dslreports.com doesn't show any open ports... I'm assuming there aren't any for some funky reason. I have the do not respond to ping thingee turned off.

It's possible your ISP is blocking those ports, try some less common ones.

I think my isp blocking them all except 23... so I can run half an FTP server :( or telnet I suppose :)

Plugged my computer directly into the wan connection, went to one of those port scanning sites... everything is stealthed (w/o a firewall on my computer)

Put the Server computer on the DMZ for few minutes.

Disable Software Firewall, Anti Virus, etc.

If it working of the DMZ it is You. If it does not it is the ISP

***Note. Running a Sever might violate you TOS, read the ISP contract.

Is it possible that the dsl modem (cisco 678) needs to be configured differently?

That's in front of the linksys router....
