Arg. Batteries leaked and now they're stuck in my maglite!

I have a three D-cell size maglite that I had sitting in my closet for a few months. I just pulled it out to use it, but when I opened it up to change the batteries, they had leaked. Now the residue that leaked out has crusted over and 2 of the batteries are stuck inside. Is there any safe way to dissolve the acid? Or anyone know how to remove the switch assembly so I can just push the batteries out the other end? Thanks.

mix up some water and baking soda and pour it inside, it should neutralize the acid and hopefully loosen the batteries

I had the same problem last night except with my Energizer flashlight. Do what Woowoo said, you can send it back, but take out the batteries first.

At that point id personally just buy a new one. But if you do get them out make sure you dremel the connectors to get the corrosion before using it again.

There's still some charge in the batteries. Won't pouring a liquid over it be... bad?
Good point...wear rubber gloves so you won't get electricuted. 😉

Which happens to be his primary problem 🙂
