Aren't RAID cards $2000 dollars ?

I could swear Ive searched around and cant find anything. I can barely find something except prices in the thousands.


How much is a simple 2 port raid card worth ? :whiste:
 
Also I probably would X out the RAID card if I decide to go 3Gbps SSD and use my last port on the SSD and not RAID it.....

proberly still $2000+ cards around, but would be looking at 16 or more ports, raid 6 and above support and some other features.

as to a 2 port card, actual hardware raid would be hard to come by as only raid 0 or raid 1 do not show great differences between software and hardware raid.

so what are you after? $2000 and 2 ports are at opersite ends of the price range.
 
Good RAID 5+ cards with a fast controller chip, tons of cache memory, and battery backup? Sure, those can still cost $2,000.

I've got a nice Sun StorageTek SAS/SATA Hardware PCIe Raid card (essentially an Adaptec 5805) listed over in FS/FT. It's about 1/10th the price you mention, but probably more features than you're expecting.

Keep in mind that unlike video cards, the best RAID controllers use a green PCB. LOL, i can never tell if you're twelve, high or "special".
 
ya tweakboy always makes me laugh 😀

honestly, if ur just looking for raid 0, they dont need to be pricey unless you want like 16 ports or something.

Being software isn't really a problem. A modern server or desktop CPU is an order of magnitude more powerful than the fastest hardware RAID card I/O processor. In fact, on big arrays, or RAID6, the hardware RAID engine can often be the bottleneck and software RAID can unlock the full performance of your drives.

What is actually more far important than whether a RAID card has hardware acceleration, is whether it has a non-volatile write-cache (a feature only of high-end hardware RAID cards).

that's what i was referring to actually.. you can get a cheap lsi with 256MB onboard.
 
remember BBWC - batteries last 3 years or so (like ups). so they stopped making those in favor of flash back write cache with super capacitor(very very long life).
