Aren't CD trays suppose to close automatically?

I used DVD shrink 3.1 and used its integrated burning software. After it finishes, the trey opens automatically I guess. I left to do something else for awhile, and I comeback to see that the trey is still sticking out.

I thought CD treys go back in after couple of minutes by default? I come back few hours later and it's still there open. 😕

Anyone ever burn something overnight and find your CD trey still sticking out?

What on earth made you think that it retracts back in?

Because of the concern of dust collecting inside the laser. I thought it would close after being idle for more then five minutes.

I haven't seen any drives within the past 2-3 years that retracted.

They used to, but not any more.

Confused

So is it ok for CD drives to be open for a long period of time? It won't get damaged by dust or anything?

Well, dust will accumulate, so unless there's some intensely vital reason why you need to keep it open for an extended period of time, keep it closed. =)

Nice 😛

No.

Drawer can be closed through software command, but it's not used often. You put a disc on there and close it in.

So what's the purpose of putting a disc on the tray, then going to the keyboard to close it?
