i was just wondering. are your parents happpy with the way you turned out or are you a disappointment, a vile tarnish on your family's reputation?

i consider myself the black sheep in the family but i think everyone is surprised at how well i turned out. how about u?

Yes, my parents are extremely proud of me. I started off shaky in high school but pulled it together, did 9 in the air force, and would consider myself to be succesful. I even have good credit, that really makes a parent proud.

after floundering around during college and a year or two after, yeah

now instead of being the disappointing son, my oldest brother is

I think my parents are even though they never said it to me but have always told my grandparents when communicate on the phone. Throughout my life I have done well in school and in my career.

I consider you the black sheep of your family too lol.

My mother royally screwed me over in many ways. Funny thing is that now when I no longer need her moral support she is sympathetic...

Don't know, don't care. I don't live my life depending or caring on the approval of others.

While true to some extent I find the approval of chosen loved ones (people less apt to be 'required' to love you like a SO, close friends, etc) to be a good barameter as to my personal disposition

To answer the OP's questions: yes they are proud of me

Hmm ... my parents were proud of me when I was in high school, working, on the swim team, and maintaining well above honor roll GPA, as well as helping with my bro and sis.

In college, that kinda went away as I switched to working and drinking, and maintaining a D average.

When I dropped out my mom was not very proud of me, nor was my father.

Afterwords, I've climbed the corporate ladder a bit and have a pretty sweet gig as a lead analyst. I have a house and make a decent living. I'm in a healthy relationship and it's been smooth sailing for the last year with her ... so I think my folks are happy.

My dad has said it before to me. My brother and I haven't really given them much heartache unlike some of my cousins. Then again they set the bar low with multiple kids with multiple baby daddies.

I think they really wish I'd settle down, buy a house, and magic up a couple kids, but I'm not the black sheep at Thanksgiving dinner or anything.

Not only are my parents proud, but my aunts, uncles, and cousins too.

My Dad seems to be proud of how much I have accomplished in business and really enjoys being with my family, but my Mother has never said a kind word in her life and has always given me the impression that she thinks I am a failure ... and then she wonders why I don't want to spend any time with her.

I see what you did thar. :sneaky:

Nope. I don't make enough money, I don't have a house, I'm not "set". Pissed me off when mommy brought up that I should go for a Ph.D (because education is the answer to everything... guess my culture!); almost done my masters. The other have of my parents is batshit crazy and non-existent.

Should hear the shit she says about the sibling whom spends most of her money having fun, and not buying a house...
