While surfing youtube recently I came upon a video of Michael Dunlop at the Isle of Man TT motorcycle race. This video is just under 18 minutes and there's no voices, no music, no cuts to other scenes; just 18 minutes of the most insane ride I've ever seen. He averaged about 128mph and topped out near 190mph on a 600cc bike.

Watch this and be amazed...

If you're like me you'll find yourself leaning into the turns and laughing in amazement...

No, my balls are not as big as anyone who rides that course at race speed. My need for thrills, fame, and fortune is apparently somewhat smaller as well.

Nope, my balls are smaller than most women's.

It did look like he was catching air in a few spots, but that wasn't exactly atypical for race-car/bike dashcam footage.

I had some friends in college that did motocross on the weekends. I didn't have the money to join them in their hobby, although it was fun to watch.

Of course now that I have disposable income, I lack the reflexes and bladder control of my youth.

FTR-I love those Isle of Man TT videos. It makes the Nurburgring look like a fairy tale playground for pussies.

I'm going to Indy this year for the 500 (1st time) and have been to see F1 races as a kid at Watkins Glen. I've also been to the Daytona Bike Week about 15 times and watched the 200 as well as the supercross races. But I've never been to see the Isle of Man TT though it is on my bucket list.

I raced motocross as a kid and have had my share of fun runnin from cops with various road bikes but nothing like what the guys racing the TT do.

Not impressed. His eyes have natural OIS. The camera did not. Not as dangerous as the camera shows.

Insane is right. That's dangerous enough on an open track, but with all those trees and houses and shit to run into? Just for kicks and a few bucks? That's not what I call courage.

This all said I went from Lantana, Florida to Columbia, South Carolina in 6 hours in my M3.

There is always a risk of dying. Sadly our member don't realize that.

This race was part of the world championship until the 70's but because of the danger inherent in going that fast on a course like that they eventually deleted it from the championship and it was probably the only decision they could do. The guys that do race the course do not make much money from it, or it alone, but there is prestige attached to the race and many of the top riders and racers have gone to watch the race and be awed. Sadly, there are people killed and they average more than one per year -- no other race that I'm aware of has that kind of mortality.

Still, dangerous as it is when it's done right as Michael Dunlup demonstrated in this video it is incredible and worthy of praise. Valentino Rossi was there a few years ago and said is was f**king awesome but also too dangerous. Many other racers from other disciplines including Mark Weber (former F1) have also been there to see for themselves.

Sooner or later it will be banned by folks that would like us all to live in a rubber room lest we should hurt ourselves, I hope to see it before that happens...

All that speed from a 600 cc bike? I wonder how fast could it be if it was a 1000 cc or larger. :)

There is a tradeoff for raw power; handling has an inverse relationship with power because of weight and distribution. I honestly don't think a liter bike could handle a course like that. This video is crazy, I wonder what kind of clutch lever travel he has because it sounds like it's a hair trigger

Somewhere between living in a rubber room and hurtling past stone walls at 200 mph, there's this middle ground called sanity.

I do too. I've been going to Long Beach for decades to witness the speed that was CART and now IRL racing. Watching those cars hurtle down Shoreline Drive at 190mph is incredible, especially in the wet. CART was way more impressive than IRL in my opinion but I still go.

I am also a motorcyclist and love canyon carving but I will be the first to admit that I am nowhere near crazy enough to attempt anything like this. I do plan on doing a trackday sometime in the next year or so though on my Ducati.

I can't watch the video until I get home, but he likely was not using his clutch while up shifting. On down shifts in higher gears, you barely need to pull the clutch in at higher RPMs.

On my 600cc sportbike, I only need to upshift with the clutch in first or second gear.
