I was wondering how many of the people here work in core of the the industry - meaning jobs with the likes of ATI, Intel, AMD, ASUS, MSI, nVidia and so on...

It would be useful for everyone, I think, to know that there's someone here who's got a direct connection with one company or another. Not for scoops - if that's something that goes too deep into trade secrets and company policy. But when there are things like driver issues, instability of other stuff like that, it feels better to know that there's someone who at least reads your problem, and can give you an idea or suggestion...

Unless, of course, you're too paranoid or had a bad experience with letting people know where you work, I don't see why this information would be a problem. After all, this is the beauty - and usefulness - of such a forum.

I work for a semiconductor fab. I could give you the scoop on how we dope our wafers etc., but that probably wouldn't help with end user problems... ;)
