Since I was about 6 I saw myself at 19 being a freshman at Indiana University, which yeah, is where I'm at. Now whether I'll get where I think I'll be after college, who knows. I hope so :)

Everything just sucks.

Theonly thing that came even remotely close is that I work with computers, but I'm not sure so thats still what I want to do.

This may explain why you and 'werk' are stalking me, you simply have nothing better to do; looking at your post count is indicative of why you're feeling this way.

He posts a thread about once a week because he's depressed about his job, living with his parents, etc., but he doesn't have the stones to do anything about it. He has a trillion excuses, too. He's basically just sitting around waiting for a dream job to land in his lap.

Enough already.

There is nothing wrong w/waiting for stuff to drop into your lap, if you're prepared for the consequences of it not happening...

Much further, but it didn't exactly happen the way I thought it would. Unexpected changes in your life force you to reevaluate the path to your goals, but provided that you stay focused, perseverance will carry you there; persistence conquers probability, imo.

I truely had no expectations at any point in my life. I've just sort of gone along with things. I have no complaints with where I'm at though. I have a loving wife, I'm near friends and family, I can afford to buy just about anything remotely reasonable that I would like, and I'm in good health.

Asking for anything more would be selfish.

from 10 yrs ago i thought i would have a career in computers, so i guess that much is true

in college, didnt know i would be moving from tx to dc until the very end. compensation and work experience has been much better than i could have imagined even 2 years ago...

never expected to get a masters, but that happened too.

so i would say im exceeding my expectations, but they werent massive in the first place

I tend to think I'm better off than most people I know that are my age, but sometimes I just can't shake the feeling that I should be doing even better. It doesn't help that I work with mostly older people (50s and 60s) who seem to have nothing better to do than travel the world at their leisure.

[edit]
Also, when I was young and naive I always told myself that I would be retired by the age of 30. That's only one year away now, and from the looks of it, I may never get to retire.

I'm precisely where I thought I would be - but counts for nothing since I'm still in school ;)

I'm actually further than where I thought I'd be, but I'm working on a career change because I find it rather unsatisfying.

Married, with a beautiful wife and son, living in America's finest city in my own home with two nice cars...no. I'm not where I thought I'd be in life. I never thought I'd have it this good! ;)

Well, back in high school, they didn't want to put me in honors math until I went in to beg for it. Now I'm pursuing a master's degree in electrical engineering at one of the top 5 engineering universities in the world, and probably top 10 worldwide. Two great summers of internships, a nice stipend, and a generous and loving family have put me at a standard of living higher than most people my age, and definitely above most grad students. I'm having a good time meeting new people, dating different girls, although I miss my family and friends from undergrad. But all in all, I really can't complain..and when I finish, I'll have some great job offers and should be able to get an enjoyable and high-paying career.

I didn't have any plans of ideas of where I would be. Just that I wanted to go to Uni and do CS.

I went to the Uni that I wanted to go to. Met some amazing people and friends with them. I'm at a sweet job now after a year somewhere else that was pretty mundane but had great people. I work with computers and I am in finance. I'm solid in the gym and my back is a lot better from an injury 16months ago. No debts, decent savings and the only things for me now are up and up . I should be getting a place of my own next year and I'm still 22. 23 at the end of the year. I don't spend much on random things. I am in line to make quite a lot of money in 2yrs+ with more experience in my current position and company.

I would say I am doing well and my lifting is on fire and my hurdling is coming along very nicely. I'm shaping up to be a complete monster in training. Hopefully will be there within 5-8yrs and before I am 30.

Most of all I have some amazing friends and family

Tried for the cadets when i was 16 but failed as i told them what i really thought at the final interview. Funny what i said to emm now i think back.

life is good, real good. :)

You've been a dekstop tech for 4 years??? WTF. I thought desktop tech was a stepping stone position to bigger and greater things. If you are happy doing it, good for you, but I wouldn't be happy if I was in the same low level job for 4 years.

There are other jobs where you can work with computers that are better paying and more respectable, ya know?

No where near it.

I never wanted kids, but was truly blessed with one (now 22yrs old)
I wanted a successful career, but work part time... am mainly a homemaker.
And I never, ever thought I would be with the guy I am with.

I didn't have a clue in HS, which is why I am where I am at this point.

I enjoy myself now, but I'd do it differently if I had the chance again

Life has taken quite a few wierd twists and turns along the way for me. Going WAAAAAAY back to high-school...nope, I nowhere close to what I expected, but moving ahead a few years, then my life had been pretty much on track, with a few oddities thrown in. I never expected to end up in Kahlee-fvcking-forneeya, (gawd I used to hate this place...now I love it) but career wise, moving here was one of the best things that ever happened. My career was going pretty well, until I got hurt on the job 3 yrs ago, now, that career is over, and at 53, I'm looking at having to start something new. THAT sux, and with my physical restrictions, it's not gonna be anything exciting or even vaguely interesting. MAYBE get a dual AS in Architectural Drafting, and Architectual Engineering...I've built highways and bridges for 30 years, maybe I can help to design them for a change...
