I admit to much ignorance about them, and after cutting them out of my diet as much as possible, I feel top notch. This is from a nutrition cert. program.

"...
Immune response and toxicity
Because we don’t digest lectins, we often produce antibodies to them. Almost everyone has antibodies to some dietary lectins in their body. This means our responses vary. Certain foods can even become intolerable to someone after an immune system change or the gut is injured from another source. The presence of particular lectins can stimulate an immune system response.

There are some lectins that no one should consume. Ever wonder why you don’t see sprouted red kidney beans?

It’s due to phytohaemagglutinin – a lectin that can cause red kidney bean poisoning. The poisoning is usually caused by the ingestion of raw, soaked kidney beans. As few as four or five raw beans can trigger symptoms.

Raw kidney beans contain from 20,000 to 70,000 lectin units, while fully cooked beans usually contain between 200 and 400 units.

It's centuries-old wisdom than an apple a day keeps the doctor away and they are chock full of pectin, so I declare your arguments invalid. Invalid I say!

If you're seriously immunocomrpomised, then I can see it being an issue. Otherwise, it's the same insanity that brought about "Gluten intolerance," which is, in no way whatsoever, something that exists. Unless you are the less than 1% of people on the planet that suffer from Celiacs, then gluten is fine for you. It does nothing, and it is delicious.

I hope this doesn't become the new pseudofad and I have to start seeing "lectin-free!" on boxes now, entire isles, entire stores...insanity.

I'm wary of lectins. Especially the ones that travel along wires to the plugs in the walls. They're shockingly powerful! :p

As the material states, some are beneficial like those found in dark/bitter greens.

The human gut did not evolve on grains or sugars like we consume and so much else, just like cows who should be eating only grass and whose meat/milk suffers from not having that. Imagine, six extra stomachs.

Eat like a bear I say.
