Are you voting for or against?

I am interested in understanding why people are voting the way they plan to vote. Is it because you support your guy 100%, are you in the Anyone But { Bush | Kerry } crowd, or are you somewhere in the middle? Regardless of which candidate you "support", please answer the poll according to the strength of your support vs. the depth of your opposition.

For myself, I'm in the 20/80 group. I've never been a strong Kerry supporter, though that's changed somewhat as I've learned more about him. I remain, however, totally opposed to Bush for dozens of reasons I won't repeat here.

On the flip side, I don't know any well-informed Bush supporters. I know many ignorant Bush supporters, and I know several well-informed people who say they don't like Bush, but feel Kerry is worse. I don't remember ever meeting someone who is both well-informed and excited about supporting Bush. In fairness, I can't think of anyone who is well-informed and excited about supporting Kerry either.

So, how about you? Is your guy fantastic, or is he merely better than the alternative?

I just hope the guy I'm voting for will be better than the alternative. But sadly I'll probably be let down like always.

40 / 60, Like Conjur I was mostly against the unnamed, fortunately my candidate turned out to be good after doing some research.

30/70 for me but I rounded to 20/80...

My candidate is vacuous and ambiguous but there's really nothing wrong with him...Not that's there's anything exceptionally good about him but at least he's not the other guy

I'm still on the fence...

if I vote for Bush, it will be because 4 more years of Bush will be better for liberals in the long run.
if I vote for Kerry, it will be because McCain could score a much easier victory against Kerry in '08 (whereas a McCain v Hillary campaign would be a much closer call).

Interesting poll.

I will not vote for Bush and the rats-nest of viscious scumbags he has let in to the White House. 100% against.

Kerry is not my choice, but this election is a referendum on the Bush administrations performance as administrators of this great Country.

In this regard they have not only failed miserably--they have, in-fact damaged our Country in ways that we cannot even understand well right now.

If Bush is re-elected--it will be a reaffirmation of the indifference to the erosion of the principles on which the USA was founded on.

Interesting results, about what I expected. So far, almost 80% indicate they are significantly dissatisfied with their candidate. Anyone have thoughts on how we fix that? How de we get candidates we can support enthusiastically?

I think the candidate pool has been crushed due to the extreme scrutiny they are put under.

Great poll Bowfinger:thumbsup:

I wouldn't vote for my guy's opponent if he were the last candidate on earth. Moving to another country would be higher on my list.

Pliablemoose and Wirelessenabled - thank you.

Note to all - there seems to be a little ballot-box stuffing. The 100/0 option almost doubled, jumping from 5 to 9, in less than about 15-20 minutes. I'm not sure why anyone would feel compelled to distort the results of a non-partisan, anonymous poll. I guess maybe it's like a religious obsession, someone who cannot tolerate any suggestion their guy is anything short of perfect.

Pretty sad, but it's as good a reason as any for a bump for the late night crowd.

I agree that's a big factor. I've actually served as a local elected official. There's no way I would ever consider anything at a national level because I wouldn't put myself and my family through such hostile scrutiny (assuming I were otherwise qualified and inclined to do so, of course).

As far as my candidate goes, this is the closest I've ever been to voting for the other party. If the system were not so broken as to produce a the candidate we see now, my vote may have been secured. As it is, I'm voting for Bush.

I'm 20/80. I don't want the other guy to win, but I'm still kind of scared of the guy I'm voting for.

I chose 60/40. I agree with Kerry on a lot of issues and there are some issues(gay marriage notably, despite its unimportance) that I feel he is being to soft on in an attempt to appeal more to the center. I really shouldnt hold him against this because its probably a necessary move to stay viable to the mainstream.

The little things dont matter in this election though. I would be ready to vote for any democrat (and a lot of republicans) over Bush. Hell, the democrats couldve elected Al Sharpton and he'd get my vote over Bush any day. Yup, Bush, and more importantly the people he surrounds himself with, are that bad.

60/40 here I can see why Kerry is more moderate with gay marriage but I guess a first step to freedom is a start. Maybe in 20 years people will be exposed more to gays and they wont fear what they do not understand as much.
The war is a big downer for me if he said he would back em out the way Bush sent em in ASAP then I would be 80/20.
Seeing as he has experience on getting us out of unjust wars he has my vote. I am still crossing my fingers though as he has been vauge about Iraq and recall time period.

Still at about 75%, even with the ballot-stuffing. This might be a good topic to discuss sometime after the election.
